I plan on doing 2 segments in a few years as well but I'm keeping it max to 11.5 cm total lengthening, 6.5 cm on femurs and 5 cm on tibias as stated in my signature. Anything more than 12 cm even from 2 segments is really pushing it imo. Honestly 5'11 is ideal for men as well, minuscule difference between 5'11 and 6'0.
8.5 cm on femur and 6.5 cm on tibia too much?
People seriously have to stop asking stupid questions like how much should I do, how much is too much, can some one else pay for my surgery etc.
What is this forum turning into?
If you can't gather how much is safe, how much you should lengthen, rate of lengthening and all these basic questions, this surgery is not for you. You are an idiot and should definitely keep away from this surgery.
Prices of these surgeries are going up because the demand is going up. Yet we have way less diaries going on then before and it's all because of these stupid questions these kids/idiots are asking.

My bad, just started to consider limb lengthening so I'm just starting to learn everything about it. Doing my research on it right now so I can complete it with minimal to hopefully no complications. Problem I find is that everyone has their own numbers of what is safe and what is not, so it makes it all the more confusing.

There are no general rules as anyone's body is different.
Some people can handle 8cm while others not even 5.
The younger and the taller you are, the more you can lengthen most of the times but still noone can give you exact numbers.
Almost any LL'er could gain 5cm in tibias and 6 in femurs without many problems (that have to do with lengthening and not infections or malunions which can happen regardless of the height gained). Above that is up to each body if it can handle more lengthening or not.
A safe amount for most of the people are 11 cm, dont allow your tibia doctor to lengthen achilles tendons, gain the most of course in femurs bit dont go above 8, starts to look weird.

I agree we really underestimate the number of people undergoing this surgery, most of which I've seen have had successful outcomes. However, they don't write any diariesĀ or write here in the forum at all.
hammad, if I were you I would lengthen 6 cm in femurs and 5 cm in tibias, but even if you lengthen this apparently conservative amount. No one can guarantee you will come out with few or no complications. You should be prepared. For example if you are with a non weightbearing device and you have non union or delayed union you could multiply your time in a wheelchair. That may cause job or financial problems. Somewhere I've read a guy got compartmental syndrome from too much bleeding and edema during surgery and could have loss his leg. Even the surgery itself is a risk.
