Is it dangerous to have osteosynthesis material inside your legs forever? Would a nail inside your leg increase the chance of catastrophical consequences in case of accidents? Do the benefit of extra support for a weak bone compensate for the drawbacks of having the implant inside?

I remember hearing from prior CLL patients that the problem with leaving the nail inside your bone is that impact when running causes the nail to vibrate and it can potentially cause the nail to fracture your bone. Not sure as to the legitimacy of that claim, but I always figured I'd have the nail removed later anyway of I had internals done.
