I’m getting jaw surgery next year for sleep apnea. I’m currently on a CPAP machine: my sleep apnea is moderate in severity.

Given the importance of sleep while recovering from LL, and that sleep apnea and poor sleep can obstruct bone mineral density ( https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4572893/ ), I was wondering if anyone here has had LL whilst having sleep apnea, and what their recovery was like. I know a lot of people have sleep apnea without even realising.

Just wondering if, despite being on CPAP now, whether this might impact my ability to make bone. Certainly something I’ll be raising with the surgeon.

It can’t be that impactful, as jaw surgery itself contains multiple osteotomies to move the bone and have new bone grow to fill in the gaps. There’s even a type of jaw surgery used to treat sleep apnea that uses distraction osteogenesis on the jaw — it’s the exact same principle as limb lengthening, whereby the patient basically distracts their own jaw.

Cheers Does anyone here who has done the surgery have sleep apnea?
