lol
the bone is consolidated and only tiny hollow....it doesnt matter.
It will fill up within weeks.
After that, you dun need the crutches anymore.
Doctor will always ask you to use the crutches for 2-4 weeks once your rod is removed.
This is for safety puporse as the bone is a bit a weak.
Some heros will take risk and walk without support.

The callus, even completed, is susceptible to fracture after nails/rode removal.
All you have to know is that every step and light jump will make stronger the callus, so you need to do that constantly 3 months after removal, so the bone structure will strenghten
