Some people who have had tibia surgery for correction and/or lengthening using external fixation and/or staple have experienced that their lower legs was swollen through the whole process and after the process their lower legs muscle became permanently very big.

Two questions:

1. Have anyone here have experience that or read about this?

2. And also, if that person who got permanently big muscle after the external fixation surgery have to have another surgery in the tibia will the risk of compartment syndrome then grow?

1. My legs were not swollen throughout the whole process but they did get much bigger afterwards.

Change in biomechanics -> Change in how hard the calf muscles have to work when walking -> Growth of calf muscles.

2. If you're talking about doing more lengthening, then yes all the risks would grow.  Otherise I don't see why it would.

So, the risk will be very minimum if a new surgery is only for correction and NO lengthening ?

My compartment syndrome had nothing to do with surgery and everything to do with biomechanics.  Not sure if that'll be the case for everyone though.
