Hey LL,
Just wondering what is the timeframe from when the fixator frames come off, how long does it take to start walking normally again, I have seen around 5 months AFTER the frames are removed before your unassisted walk is normal again. Thoughts?
Another timeframe I am interested in knowing is around 1-1.5 years after frame removal when the bone has consolidated 100%, after removal of LON nail surgery occurs, how long does it take to walk normally again. I have seen a video of a patient 30 days after the nail removal barley walking using a walker, just wondering how long that recovery takes.

Yeah that sounds about right, although normal means different things to different people here. My frames got removed in November 2007, and I was walking without any devices (e.g. crutches) by April 2008.

I don't know what was wrong with that patient. I was walking without crutches or a walker within a few days of nail removal.

I misinterpreted nail with frame removal, the video I saw was 30 days after frame removal.
Is the internal fixator used in LON weight bearing? Shouldnt you theoretically be able to walk unaided (although not normal gait) soon after external fixator removal? For example using TSF as external fixator and synthes expert tibial nail as internal?
It is weight bearing, meaning your leg will not break just because of your body weight, but you will still have issues with balance for a while. You will need to go from a walker to crutches before walking unaided.

how long do you think it will take to walk unaided with proper gait if only lengthening 3 cm with LON?
also thank you for your help/advice on this forum for so long after your successful surgery

When are the externals removed in lon usually, Is it days after lengthening is done or is there a certain amount of callus formation that needs to be seen before it can be removed?
Hey MirinHeight,
what method and doc are you thinking of using for your procedure? or did you have it done already?
