What would lead to amputation?

What are the different scenarios in LL that can lead to leg amputation?

Internal nail infection is one complication that could lead to amputation but what are the required conditions that would make it require an amputation? Like surely there would be many stages of infection to clear that would need to cleared to reach the stage of amputation?

ANd other than internal nail infection what other complications can lead to amputation?

This question is meant more for the medically aware members of the community.

in case of amputation you can ask for prothesis and then, choose your height 
and you would look like a badass character from any science fiction universe

Below knee prosthesis might be ok, but think about above knee. Life will become super difficult.

Yes bone infection can lead to amputation but not always. My grannie had a bone infection after some surgery and they just did another surgery and cleared it out. Amputation was not necessary. I am trying to understand how bad the infection must be for it to require amputation and what other steps can be used to prevent it. Till date, I have only heard of amputation in accident cases and nowhere else.

Yes, non-union is a very serious complication. Treatment for non-union may work or may not work. In case they don't work, you may live with pain for the rest of your life, so amputation may be the best option.

Might be ok because it's not with you. Losing your leg for a cosmetic procedure is unacceptable.

Losing leg is unacceptable to anyone. I said there is a HUGE difference between amputating a leg above the knee vs below the knee. Both are horrible scenarios but one 10 times worse than the other. Anyway leave this topic.

I am just trying to calculate the odds of a bone infection happening and leading up to an amputation.

If major nerve is injured for any reason, the leg can loose enough blood flows and  become dead, then need amputation
It’s just like what diabetics suffer
Injuries of major nerve can occur with CLL
So the risk of amputation never be zero, however it is very low chance
