Hello,
Thank you all for sharing your experiences; very helpful. I had my femur surgery done, using precise nail 2.0, about 4 weeks ago. The goal is 2.5 inches. The surgery went well, not that painful, but during the post-op and lengthening, I'm facing a few challenges with left leg being super tight and somewhat numb. I'm around 18mm so far. I have a few questions, and am hoping those who successfully navigated this can share their experiences.

Questions:
1.  Did you do any set of exercises before and after each ERC lengthening click? Also, did you apply ice each time after the ERC/distraction?
2. How did you space out the ERC clicks, how many hours apart and when is generally your last ERC click. I'm doing 1 mm each day.
3.  At what point were you able to turn on your side? A couple of times I tried it, it was painful in the incision area, and I could not roll around.
4. At nighttime, on the left side, I'm getting this weird cold sensation at the incision area on the left, it only happens at night.
5. I'm still getting used to finding a comfortable position to sleep at night. Since I can't turn around on side, I feel stuck in one position all night and it becomes uncomfortable. Are you using any elevation under the knee or calf at nighttime? The PT mentioned not to use any kind of elevation under the knee, but I read in some of the discussions that it is recommended.
6. My left knee pops (once every session out of 20 reps) when I raise the left leg up in sitting position. The doc said X-rays look good, but be watchful. Did you guys go through this, and when did they decide it is IT Band? PT mentioned about it, but they are watching.

Thanks for your help.

ERC "click" - I meant the lengthening with the machine, 0.25 mm

FWIW, I only lengthened the femur on one leg ~ 38mm/1.5" due to a LLD, but I did use the precice nail.

Questions:
1.  Did you do any set of exercises before and after each ERC lengthening click? Also, did you apply ice each time after the ERC/distraction?
- I didn't plan my PT to coincide with my distractions. I did them a few times a day, when I remembered, but keeping to a good schedule is probably a better idea.  I didn't apply ice, but I took Tylenol and/or methocarbamol (A mild muscle relaxer).

2. How did you space out the ERC clicks, how many hours apart and when is generally your last ERC click. I'm doing 1 mm each day.
- I was doing .75mm/day spaced out to .25mm (3x/day)

3.  At what point were you able to turn on your side? A couple of times I tried it, it was painful in the incision area, and I could not roll around.

- I was able to sleep on my side sometime around 6wks post surgery, but your experience is a lot different than mine.  My incisions weren't painful, my knees were just 'tight' and I still had some swelling.  I found using a pregnancy pillow helped me find a comfortable position, but I'm not sure if that will work with two 'broke' legs.

4. At nighttime, on the left side, I'm getting this weird cold sensation at the incision area on the left, it only happens at night.
- Yeah. Weird pains only got weirder/worse until i stopped distractions. See stretching/pain and muscle relaxers above.

--See Above

6. My left knee pops (once every session out of 20 reps) when I raise the left leg up in sitting position. The doc said X-rays look good, but be watchful. Did you guys go through this, and when did they decide it is IT Band? PT mentioned about it, but they are watching.
--I would go with the x-rays look good. I'm not sure what they want you to be 'watchful' of and what do they want you to do if you experience something 'out of the ordinary'? Did they tell you want to watch out for?

Hope this help at least a little.
Good luck.

UnclE,

Thanks much for sharing your experience, much appreciated. A couple of follow-ups.
Meds: I'm taking Oxy for pain relief, but for some reason, none of the muscle relaxers actually helped. Were you taking the muscle relaxer soon after or prior to the distractions? I have not tried those ones you mentioned yet.

Turning on side : would you mind posting amazon link to the pillow?

I'm getting a recumbent bike to help stay active, and also do this prior to distraction, so hopefully it will help relieve some of the stiffness and pain.

--- It's probably not a good idea to keep taking Oxy for pain relief this far out from your surgery.  I only took Oxy for the first week.  During my distraction phase, I relied on Tylenol and/or Toradol + Muscle Relaxers.

-- My pillow is similar to this: https://a.co/d/gM48RLs

-- The bike sounds like a good idea, so long as your doc approves of it.   I'm not sure what you mean about doing this "prior to distraction"... You should be well into your distraction phase, having had your surgery about 6 weeks ago..
