It’s honestly not logical to do this surgery in Vietnam just because it is cheaper.

As far as I know, there are no truly experienced limb lengthening surgeons there with a strong international track record. And the bigger issue is this: if something goes wrong, they may not be capable of managing or correcting the complication properly.

This is not the kind of surgery where choosing the cheapest option makes sense. Some surgeries are simply too serious to do for too cheap.

So no, I would not recommend Vietnam for limb lengthening.

I agree with Charizard that it’s important to choose a doctor with proper expertise. However, I don’t think it’s fair to completely dismiss the idea that there are no experienced limb-lengthening surgeons in Vietnam.

At this point, I feel satisfied with my decision:

(1) Why I’m satisfied:
The surgical outcome has been good, with no complications.

(2) Why I chose Dr Luong:
As Charizard mentioned, experience matters. When I did my research, I found that Dr Luong has published quite a number of specialized scientific papers. Coming from a research background myself, I tend to measure credibility based on academic publications rather than popularity driven by marketing.

Hey Michael Anderson, when I went in for my check-up you were at about 7 cm already. I’m guessing you’ve probably finished the lengthening by now, right? How many cm are you at these days?
I’m only at 6 cm so far. The first little while was pretty uncomfortable since getting around was tough. I’m usually the kind of person who likes being out and about, walking around and staying active. Luckily, after about a month I was able to move around with a U-shaped walker.
Have you gone back to Canada yet?
