i heard that they remove bone which can result in shorter length, but then are sites that say that  making the bones aligned straight will make you taller

They make you taller... Depends if you do it with Ilizarov though.. Also the gain depends on the severity.. It can go from a few mms to 1-3cm

Would this type of surgery be covered by insurance? I don't think it will be worth paying full price for that little gains

If I were you, I would do LL of 4cm+ correction.
