I'm thinking about having my surgery done with Dr. Mahboubian. I live on the east coast though, wanted to know if I could have my surgery with him then fly back home or if I need to stay on the west coast during my 3 months of lengthening for in person check ups/rehab and what not...because it would be easier for me if I could go back home right after my surgery...
Do you have to stay near your doctor for the 3 months of lengthening?
I don't know about his requirements specifically, but in general it's not a rule that you must.
Is it recommended to stay nearby your doctor for 3 months for check ups? If I could go home after the surgery I would rather do that. But if it's required or greatly beneficial to stay by your doctor for in person check ups, and rehab, ect, then I would stay the 3 months....anyone know?
dear Futureteller,
It is not only recommended to stay close to your surgeon, but should be mandatory. Remember, this process is not worth losing life or quality of life over. You will need biweekly followups in person for xrays and thorough physical examination.
There are very good CLL options on the east coast.
Alternatively, if you are adamant about getting surgery with Dr. Mahboubian, invest in 3 to 4 months living the dream in LA
It’s a beautiful city with beautiful people.

I know that Dr Mahboubian and Dr Giotikas allow patients to return home 2 and 4 weeks post op respectively. I am going to Dr Giotikas next year and only plan on staying in Athens for 4 weeks and finishing the rest of lengthening back home due to not being able to be away for 3 months due to work and personal commitments. Ideally as Dr Assayag mentioned you should stay close by for the entire process but if you are unable to then you will be fine going to Dr Mahboubian as he allows you to return home after 2 weeks.
Mahboubian is ok with you leaving, but he does recommend for you to stay at least 2 weeks to check up on you and then you can send him X rays so he can monitor your progress remotely.
