Hey y’all, I got my x ray and consultation done today, and was told that my bones are so narrow they will need to use the smallest precice nail for my femurs (8.5 mm).
The doctor said that I may have a 10% chance of nail bending as it is the smallest nail and thus more susceptible, which would cause them to stop my lengthening short.
He is known to be a very safe and skilled doctor, so I understand that he would disclose all the worst possible situations that may happen.
At the same time, this has me somewhat worried as I would be spending lots of money and be quite pissed if I had to stop lengthening short at say 3 cm due to nail bending.
They did mention that lots of East Asians typically have to use the smallest nail and that the doctor has had to tell this same story to new patients on a daily basis (it is typical)
Has anyone here had to use the smallest precice nail for femurs? Did your doctor tell you the risk of nail bending? Were you able to reach your goal despite using the smallest nail? If you had nail bend, did you have to stop your lengthening short? Thank you and god bless, hope to hear back soon!
Femurs with smallest precice nail (8.5 mm) - chance of bending?

I got the 8.5mm nail and have seen all Indian Precise patients getting the same. Your doc is right, one of our comrades got a nasty bend during lengthening without any weight bearing! (but this was after 6cm) and its very rare.
It doesn't mean that you can't reach 7-8cm. You just have to be very careful.
Hey Man, thanks for the reply this was exactly what I was looking for. It’s def reassuring you saying that this is “rare” for the nail to bend even as the smallest precice nail, but could still happen.
Also it reassuring knowing that many people have to get the smallest nail on the daily and many of them are still able to reach 7-8 cm at the end of their journey. I will absolutely not weight bear at all and will treat my legs like they are straight made of glass throughout the entire lengthening.
Now I’m curious to know how to transfer my body to the toilet and bed from wheel chair without putting any weight whatsoever or pressure on my legs but I suppose it can be done effectively and I will have to learn how to be really careful. Thanks!
