ive heard of people getting repos and stuff but havent heard of ppl spending everything on LL and running away to a different country to avoid bills lol. after getting ur car repo we still stay in the states cus thats where home is. not really a 3rd world place or europe/germany place where it cost just as much to live. and its hard to move around from country to country u know.

You could even just stay in your home country tbh, it's not illegal to not pay your debts and all that'll happen is some letters (shred em) and phone calls (change your number and don't tell them the new one).

Yeah you won't be qualifying for muh mortgage or be able to rent a car for 6 years or so, big bloody deal. That's nothing compared to the advantage of being 3 inches taller. Make the statute of limitations a lifetime and I'd still choose the 3 inches.

I'm considering a loan I was pre-approved for. USD$14,000 loan, plus much of my savings, for G-Nail (9.5cm). Loan would be USD$400 per month for 7 years, with no repayment penalty (so can pay down the principal directly as able. I'd be paying back nearly double what I borrowed. I haven't decided on this yet.

Others have mentioned debt-maxing (possibly including leaving one's country). This is interesting, but I don't think it's for me. If you stay in your country, they can garnish your wages if you are an employee. However if you're self-employed, then this seems viable. Or leaving the country works too, but I don't want to lose my family for ~7 years or however long the statute of limitations is.

Thanks for sharing about credit cards with 0% APR promotional periods. I had not considered that. Perhaps once the promotional period is coming to an end, one could get a personal loan (that has a lower APR) to pay off the credit card, thereby taking advantage of the "time value" of money and inflation ($1 today is more than $1 tomorrow, so $1 of debt tomorrow is actually less debt than $1 of debt today).

Good to know. In this context, typically 1 large payment, I suspect that would be more difficult to detect. Perhaps HIPAA or other privacy laws could allow one to falsely claim that it is "normal" medical debt, rather than cosmetic.

If your job can be done remotely than perhaps becoming a "digital nomad" and secretly (from your employer) living in Vietnam or other inexpensive places.
Overall not for me.
