According to Celeb Heights (which I think is generally pretty accurate), Tom Cruise is 172cm (so close to 5'8"). I think he does look about that much, but I also think he wears lifts.
Yea he's smaller then most actors in Hollywood now as he was when he started. Also let's not hide the fact that if he has any sort of height neurosis, it was probably developed because he is made fun by society, not his own low confidence.
