Quote from: growth_journey183 on April 14, 2025, 12:23:41 PMHi everyone, I’m new to the forums. I’m from NY and I’m planning to get this surgery by early next year, since I need to save up and financially unstable at the moment. I’m between 5’4 and 5’5, roughly 164cm-165cm, and I have been basically bullied and harassed my entire life. As a child-to pre-teen I was a descent height for my age and my pediatrician even told me I was growing at a descent rate and would be taller than my dad by few inches, which he was between 5’9-5’10 at the time. Unfortunately I stopped growing at 14, I’ve been abused, physically, mentally and mistreated by, teachers, students, coaches through my child-teenhood and throughout high school and as an adult targeted even more cause of my height. I’ve faced tons of rejection, discrimination and more harassment on a daily basis. It’s been rough
and this procedure means so much to me. So I’m considering getting this done. My goal is to reach from my current height 5’4-5’5(165cm) to about 5’10-5’11(182cm) roughly.
I was planning to go to Dr. Reif in NY. I saw his interviews and I really enjoyed them. Are there any patients that experienced him?
Can anyone tell me their experience if anyone has gone from 6 inches or even 7? What was the process like?
Thank you,
We all have same problems as you, more or less.
But, you have to know something: The shorter you are, the less height you can get !
I was 1.70-1.71 m and i could get 1.82 safe height, that means 12 cm.
For you will be VERY risky to get 15 cm... and impossible to get 20 !
So, we all have to follow the safety rule, otherwise will remain the whole life crippled, or even to die in the lengthening process.
If you can get 12 cm, will be a real success !...
Just keep in mind, it doesnt matter what you wish, it matters only what is safely possible for you !
I’m really thinking of getting this surgery, it’s my last hope :(

How about 13cm-14cm? Lowest could be 12cm. At least in the range of 1.74-1.77. Can this still be safe?

Yes 13-14cm is possible but as the absolute limit. Femurs are pretty commonly lengthened to 7-8cm, but I haven’t seen anyone go above that. Femurs are usually lengthened to 5cm but I have seen a few 6s. You don’t have to worry about your bones being too short, since there are so many variables at play that this doesn’t really matter. But yes 13-14cm is the max safe limit most trusted doctors will allow. Think of your nerves and blood vessels like a rubber-band. The rubber-band is completely fine till a certain point, after which it starts tearing, after which it breaks. The closer you get to these big numbers the chance of failure exponentially increases.
Anyway, trust there is no point worrying about the cms right now. This is not a one and done surgery. You dont walk in the surgery room asking for 6cm on femurs and cry forever because you could’ve lengthened 8. Once they put the nails on, you will have months to choose when to stop. So if you have issues at 5, stop then. If the doctor gives you the green light at 7 lengthen to 8.
BTW I think you are too tunnel visioned on the height. Sure you don’t like your height and have suffered because of it but you still have to gauge all aspects to make a reasonable decision. You want to become tall but this is still surgery and you have to be realistic and think long term. Consider your aesthetic proportions and the risk to the functionality of your legs or you will just be running from one issue to the next.
I agree with what the others here are saying. Proportions do matter, unfortunately.
If your doctor is competent he will talk about proportions with you. Sure, there is always some wiggle room, but go beyond a reasonable limit and your body will look off - your upper body will look to small, your arms too short. This may even give you somewhat of a feminine stature.
you should aim for 7 on tibia and 6 on femur - anything else, the bones, tendons and muscles won't take it
what money do you have?
might be better to do 8cm femur and 5cm tibs. but yeah 13cm should be the safe max @growth_journey183
15‑17 cm is begging for nerve palsy and a lifelong limp. Cap total gain at 10‑12 cm: 5‑6 cm femur, 5‑6 cm tibia, taken in two rounds. Budget extra cash and months of PT
