Importance of in-person Family Support? (surgery in US w/ family care vs abroad)

Hi there,

I am seeking your perspective on this matter. I can cover the cost of the procedure in the US, and I have relatives who are willing to stay with me for the initial three months.

I have been informed that the start of the limb lengthening process is extremely demanding on an emotional and spiritual level. Due to this, I believe that it is worthwhile to pay extra for care in the US to have my family by my side. Nonetheless, I am aware that individuals who undergo the procedure overseas can form connections and build relationships with fellow patients throughout the treatment. (Please note that I am not inclined to choose a clinic in Turkey or India for residence during this period– my main comparison is between (A) the outpatient experience in the US with my family present, and (B) a possible “live-in” experience in Europe).

What are your opinions on this matter?

Yes, having family for support and assistance with small tasks at home can be extremely beneficial. Otherwise, it can be a lonely and mentally exhausting process.

Okay, thanks for the input. Given that I’m now going just for femur, US cost will be much more manageable.

@CuteIsNotWhatWeAimFor hi! I have chosen to limit the number of people who know about my surgery, initially aiming for none. However, keeping it entirely confidential has been challenging, particularly after withdrawing from social activities abruptly. I believe this surgery isn’t viewed as socially appropriate, and it’s crucial to have family members who won’t spread rumors, even unintentionally. Some interesting discussions related to it have taken place in the last 2 months around here.

Just need to take responsibility and accept it. Why worry about others’ opinions? It’s your life.

You won’t be able to conceal this procedure (unless you’re very young). The main purpose of this operation is for it to be visible. If it’s not visible, then you’ve simply spent a lot of money for no reason haha.

Dr. Birkholtz’s facility in South Africa appears impressive, particularly for post-op care, albeit pricey. You are allocated a 3-month period with comprehensive services, and there is a highly skilled team available for post-op assistance. Exploring this option is certainly worthwhile if you have the financial means to do so.

You have the option to conceal it as long as it’s approximately 5cm. The typical insole -> hair -> flat footwear routine. After several months, individuals will simply overlook/trust that indeed, you have consistently possessed this stature. Apologies for any typographical errors.
