If you run into any complications in USA, insurance does not cover any costs of elective LL surgery.
If you get run into any of these complications:
- bone infections
- pulmonary embolism
And need immediate hospital care, it can easily cost you about 100k-200k of additional costs, especially if you need to stay in an ICU for pulmonary embolism. If you cannot pay it within 30 days it will show up on your credit report. A bad credit history will haunt you for life.
Only in USA is medical care so ridiculously expensive. If you do this in India, Turkey, or countries like UK which have public healthcare, whatever complications you have to deal with, you will not become officially bankrupt. It is widely understood that in USA if someone does not have health insurance you are ducked. Getting elective LL means you do not have insurance coverage for any complication.
What is your assessment?
Is it FOOLISH to get this done in USA?

The best LL surgeons on the planet are in the US. You need to decide whether you want to make some money and do it in the US or not. But IMO, Dr Parihar in India is not bad at all although the facilities might not be top notch. If you under cash crunch, best is to do it with A REPUTABLE SURGEON outside US. I did not know that additional costs come to 100-200K. Usually 30K is what I had heard. Btw, Canada is not bad either(Read Dr Marie)
This woman stayed in the hospital for 4 months due to covid and paid nearly $3 million.

That is nearly $25k for a day.
I was given a quote that almost came to $30k per night at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. If you develop pulmonary embolism, bone infection or compartment syndrome, you would easily spend an extra 3-4 days in the hospital and this would amount to $100k.

It's more expensive to do surgery in big cities like New York compared to small cities?

Probably. The prices at Hospital for Special Surgery are probably to justify the cost of that real estate in the heart of New York City. But the hospital prices are probably still about half of that in Los Angeles.
USA healthcare system is considered to be meme-worthy and insurance is the savior for most. But by doing CLL you kind of forego any insurance coverage of anything that arises out of complications from CLL. Insurances usually don't cover complications for out of cover procedures (which CLL is).

I see. What surprised me is that many celebrities chose to do cosmetic surgery in LA, and LA was double the price of New York when it comes to cosmetic surgery. If I were an actor I would choose safer and less expensive hospital to do it.

I don't know if LA is double the price of New York City for cosmetic surgery. It's just that most of the best surgeons are in LA.
