I am considering undergoing limb lengthening surgery in Vietnam because the cost is much lower compared to what I would have to pay in Canada. However, I still have some concerns:
(1) Which doctors are reputable?
(2) Which hospitals are trustworthy?
(3) What issues might I face if I do not speak Vietnamese?
Thanks all,
Looking for Advice on Leg Lengthening Surgery in Vietnam
I am also researching leg lengthening surgery in Vietnam, as based on what I’ve found, the cost is around under $20,000
I’m considering leg lengthening surgery in Vietnam because it’s much cheaper, around $19-21k, but I’m still a bit worried about safety. I’m also looking into 108 Military Central Hospital.
I did my surgery in Vietnam on April 19, 2025. The facility is amazing. You just need to find a fully capable doctor experienced in limb lengthening. Hanoi has a few known reputable doctors, including Dr. Nguyen Van Luong (who performed my surgery), Dr. Doan, Dr. Son, and Dr. Trinh. I spent $21,000 for six months because i did it all on my own: accommodation, transportation, physiotherapy, surgery, food, and caregiver. I didn't take their package. Also, it helps if you speak the language because most doctors and nurses in Vietnam, especially in Hanoi, do not speak English. They only offer illizarov or LON. I chose Ilizarov because, based on my research, it has a 95% success rate and it also fixes bow legs. Lastly, the doctors usually perform this surgery in a private hospital like Bac Ha International Hospital because of better facilities and equipment. 108 Military Hospital is a public hospital. They will not perform limb lengthing to foreigners unless you have an accident or were born with leg defects.
If you plan to do this surgery, be mentally and physically ready to lose sleep, weight, muscles, appetite, potentially complications during the lengthening process and infections.

I’m currently looking into a few limb-lengthening doctors. I’d really appreciate any extra info or personal experience you’re able to share. Quality comes first for me, cost second.
I’ve been recommended some doctors in Vietnam, but I still have a few concerns about their expertise. I’ve asked a friend there to look into it, so I should have more info in a few days.

You had surgery with Dr. Luong — do you have a profile or more details about him?

Is this the Dr. Luong you had your surgery with?

I’ve been looking into this physician’s work and found it very interesting. I noticed that they use an improved limb-lengthening frame and have published a Q1 journal article. As a PhD researcher based in Canada, I know that it’s quite rare for a single clinician to have a Q1 publication like this, which I really respect.
I’m currently trying to find a way to get in touch with this physician to learn more about their work. If anyone has relevant information or can point me in the right direction, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you!
