Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum but I'm getting surgery in the next couple of weeks with Dr. Herzenberg at Mt Sinai in Baltimore. I had a few questions regarding the process if anyone can help me out. The big thing I'm wondering about is how tight ones legs get post surgery? The reason I'm getting this surgery is due to a limb length discrepancy combined with the shorter leg being rotated inward due to being born with a club foot and I'm concerned about the potential for the muscles to contract. I'm only getting one leg lengthened by ~2.5cm and wanted to know from those who have gone through this surgery what to expect. Also, has anyone had one of or both of their limbs "derotated" while being lengthened? And finally, any recommendations for expediting and improving recovery time? I have some research projects I'd really like to get back to working on by the summer time (4-5 months post surgery). Thanks for your help!

Hey, good luck on your surgery. At 2.5 cms you should be fine, just do some regular standing and follow your doctor's instructions.
hey good luck and i think u resuming back to studies should be no problem since its 2.5cm and youll have a healthy leg. as for the tightness concern, most only complain about it deep into lengthening (5-7cm) but they also say it decreases once they have stretched and PT. 4-5 months post surgery bones will already be consolidated
Welcome to the forum.
2.5cm is very little and you will be fine. I highly doubt you will experience tightness as long as you don't lengthen too quickly. You will find many diaries here or on old forum of people who lengthened 5 to 6cm with little to no tightness.
I hope you can document your experience here for us.
Thank you,
TS
