Hm I'm about an inch shorter than I thought.  In between 5'5" and 5'6" at 6am.  Little distressing

Thank you sir!

It's been about 4 hours since i woke up.  The most annoying thing is having to pee but not being able to.   There's no pain to speak off yet. They gave me morphine when I woke up and got 2 oxy tablets 2 hours ago.  It's about 430pm here

Its very uncomfortable for me to have pressure (lying down) on my but for a long time.   So I'm switching positions a lot including on stomach. I worry that I'll be inflamed tomorrow from to much activity.  I also expect more pain at night so will request meds then.

Working upper body like everyone  ::)said pays off.  I need to be even stronger though.   Legs are useless concrere blocks and weigh a lot.  It is hard work here, switching position every 30min. and trying to keep these ice pads on.  I doze on and off

My notes from last night:
2 oxy at 245p
Next morphine at 5p. (Edit: did i actually get this?)

730p:  2 oxy
(Requested, felt a bit pain coming in while just lying there)

10p pain starting (light, im trying to nip in bud)

1015p tylenol did nothing
1115p toradol- also able to flip to prone now for some reason immediately. Maybe just slept a lot
For flipping and general mvmt, there's a metal ring hanging over my chest which is greatly helpful, grab and pull
1135p able to move to lying on side and pee (side was painful before, )

I sleep in 15 minute spurts , wake briefly then doze back in to dreamland..  the waking was happening always even when pain was 0.

1135p:  so far the experience has been quite bearable. Only the pee aspect is bad, just hate that full bladder sensation.  Thankfully when i go into sleep mode the bladder sensation goes away.  In normal life i wake up 2-4 times at night to pee so perhaps the every 15 minutes thing is due to the bladder problem here.  Or that theres a light in in the room

1145p toradol def helping i can perform more ambitious movements like lifting groin when prone to put pillow under
Interesting i feel very awake all the time yet as soon as lie down and close eyes, i am dreaming.  Is it the opiates
Or because my body is just exhausted in repair mode

1223a there's itch deep inside my left thigh,
  Annoying because scratch does nothing
On that note, my left thigh totally numb but right thigh can feel.   Told that's normal for nerve block.

Day 2 (yesterday= day 1 = surgery day)

After 1210a day 2, was more difficult.  Waking every 15 minutes and bladder sensation but couldn't pee.  Shifting to prone laborious due to wires tangled up hospital gown and the one tapped to left index finger sometimes forces·hand to not comfy prone Lying position.

Around 215a i used a pillow case as an eye mask and then slept in 1 hour spurts.

Peeing and sleeping was better from this point on
It's now 420am i can Pee semi regularly if i hoist myself up like a board, upper body up as high as possible.  I think elevating bladder as high above bed level is why it helps

Continued notes from day 2:

420a pain when try to move so can't move
Pain when just lying/sitting is a 2
Will wait on pain med, nurse says toradol at 530a
The ice pads feel good, it's warm in the room
Last night it got really hot at some point during night felt like they turned heat to 77. Nurse said no a/c control so the ice pads provided some relief however i could not allow self to sleep with them on as they are ice temperature and would burn skin.  Luckily the temperature got more normal after a while so i could sleep

436a forget it , just shifting position slightly hurts a 5 to 6.  Asked for 5mg oxy, got 448a

Toradol coming at 6am

506a pain 4-5 when moving can flip prone with pain

just going to rest lie prone here for toradol

6a toradol.  Taking nap
750a still hurts 4-5 to move.  Remember yesterday there was basically no pain at all to move.  I don't look forward to flipping, but i feel i could.
I ask for a double portion of breakfast but don't get it.   I get eggs potatoes raisin bran, watery coffee (might be tea) with a plastic cover, milk and 2 sausage patties that look like from the frozen foods section.  I try to avoid processed food but eat it all.

830a was pretty painfull to flip, going to ask for Tylenol, also hurts 1 at least in legs when not moving
Actually do 2 tabs oxy too- lets not let the pain get a deep foothold on my body
my abs hurt too when prone and propping myselfup
Grab a hanging ring when lying on your back and pull up- that's what i do a lot and that probably bangs your abs

Oxy 5mg 915a and tylenol
Hurts to move

1050a
After a long nap, I'm still in pretty bad pain when trying to move. Thankfully, lying still has no pain.  The nurse said people need oxy after their 1st PT session, coming later today.  That's why only 5mg not 10mg.  Thus i will endure lying still on my back or sitting still. At 12p there should be another toradol.

11a woops i should have been using this spirometer a lot more. Thanks nurse for reminding me its important. Already felt one bit of mucus clear out

I don't feel it's worth going prone with this level of moving pain.  Going to just switch buttocks which one I'm leaning on til 12p toradol

1135a toradol

12p Robbins came, along with Marsha.  Marsha's the one who told me not to worry about cracking sounds when i first got here.  And yeah there was a pop around my left femur later that day.

YOU ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO TWIST YOUR LEG!  If you twist to hard you can break the nail. Because the bone is separated and nailed together and the two halves could pull it in different directions?  Anyway kinda makes sense.   No sitting cross legged.   So i was really playing with fire by flipping prone all these times!  I could still try but one has to do things where the legs never "rotate in their sockets" as i think of it.

For example, he said lying on side, or on stomach is fine. And all patients talk about it.  So i guess the idea is you pick your whole body up and tilt it.  Not let your legs tilt apart from your trunk etc.  Not try to rotate one leg over individually, which i was doing.  Etc.

Sleep: Marsha said don't use Ambien, you could sleep walk which obviously going to bend your nail

Robbins said any  OTC sleep aids is OK like melatonin, magnesium.  Marsha recommends Benadryl only.

Robbins said sleep problems, which I'm worried about, more for later stages when you get tight.

He said 5mg oxy should be plenty and don't take 10mg that'll knock you out.   So the supply they give you,  about 42 5mg tabs for the whole lengthening process,  is gonna be more than enough.  That makes me feel better
