Guys, this a question mainly for those of you that went thru this surgery.
I recently went with my mates to play football (soccer) after a long period of pause. It seems that playing football is pretty important to me and I would like to know from the guys that did LL, How is your ability to play football after the surgery, let’s say after 2-3 years?
Football involves sudden changes of direction and I think it's a good indicator of how you healed after LL.
Cheers,

If playing football is important to you, don't get LL

LL is for those that value height  above all else, and are okay with not being as agile or quick as before

Forget about football at a high level if you want
the surgery.

Ok, I understand that and I know that I won't be as before...and I'm not a pro Playing football after LL .  I'm interested in how much of my ability will be loosen having in mind this type of game. Have anyone experienced a situation like this? Are you able to score as before?
I guess I'm ok with loosing 20-30% of my abilities.
I've seen football players that had their tibia bone broken and then played ok.

There is goodfootballer's diary at the old forum. Guy did 7,5 cms in tibias (via salamehfix) and expected to be a professional football player after that. Sadly, after LL reality was not so kind, he left football and his last posts were quite sad to read.

You said you are not a pro, and I guess you don't expect to so. I think that if you go for a moderate amount of lengthening and work hard on your recovery, you can probably play and enjoy football at an amateur level. But, as someone said before, if football is really a top priority for you, I would say that you should reconsider this surgery.

I work in professional football and I can tell you now that with a serious injury like a broken leg, ACL etc, you will lose a level of athleticism. Some players can continue at a reasonable level, some it destroys their careers. Now if you're stretching out soft tissue on top of this and changing the physical structure of your leg, I think it's fairly obvious the potential long term consequences would be pretty damn negative.

You cannot get LL, certainly not for a significant amount, if you care about football. You could recover to the point you could walk/hike without noticing it, but even to be able to run normally would take a lot, let alone playing serious football.

It will have a negative effect on football. I don't know if you are referring to American football or soccer but either will be badly affected

Leg lengthening (tibias) significant amounts destroys ankle mobility which is critical for athletic performance. Ankle mobility is restricted in most people when you reach 4cms or so. You lose dorsiflexion and plantar flexion eventually.

My advice is if you want to play football at a relatively serious level then don't do this surgery.

Its stuff like this that needs discussed more not crap like proportions which are the least of your worries
