Hi everyone, I visited the hospital for an interview, and the doctor mentioned that there is a slight curvature in my femur, which falls within the normal range for humans. Due to this, there is a possibility that I might undergo limb lengthening with a precise nail capable of a maximum distraction of 5 cm.

I’m curious why there is limited information available about this specific type of short nail.

Has anyone encountered a similar situation?

because it does not exist lol. the smaller nail has a smaller diameter, which results in lower weight-bearing capacity. However, it still has a maximum distraction of 8cm.

Yes, I also was unaware of its existence… Until he informed me about the option of implanting a 5 cm nail in me. I discovered the detailed information on NuVasive, where they offer three variants of the nail for limb lengthening – 5cm, 6.5cm, and 8cm. However, I haven’t come across any mentions on the forum regarding the utilization of this shorter nail with a diameter of 10.7.

There could be a specialized less expensive nail for cases like yours, If it’s Nuvasive, there’s no need to be afraid.

It is accurate that the Nuvasive surgical guide contains an 8 cm maximum limb lengthening as well as a 5 cm intramedullary nail.

It is possible that an intramedullary nail with an 8 cm maximum limb lengthening is commonly employed due to the less curved nature of most individuals’ femurs compared to the OP’s.

Moreover, apart from ANTEGRADE, there is also RETROGRADE for the femur. Which surgical procedure was recommended by your physician?
