As per the paper by Lee-Dong Hoon, the highest deviation for limb lengthening of around 5 cm using PRECICE2 was 3 mm.

Your doctor needs to test the device before the limb lengthening surgery. Later, you can confirm those claims with X-ray images. Unfortunately, if there are any issues, another surgery will be necessary.

What is the likelihood of the device malfunctioning and extending beyond the desired length or failing to stop extending? Does the device contain a preset restriction to avoid this scenario or prevent users from exceeding a specific limit within a given timeframe?

Such a limit can be customized, similar to a daily limit. The issue arises when the device incorrectly perceives that it is not lengthening, although it actually is. A solution one individual found was to track the duration of the limb lengthening sessions independently and rely on that timing instead of solely relying on the device’s readings. However, occurrences of this nature are infrequent.

The Precice nail has a maximum length of 8cm (technically 8.3cm if you unlock the ERC machine). I continued lengthening without knowing the exact measurement until reaching the nail’s end, indicated by strange popping sounds. At that moment, it becomes clear that it’s time to stop, haha.

prior to nail insertion into the canal they test nail in the operating theater to ensure there are no issues with limb lengthening to the full 8 and it stopping
after that as others have mentioned there are daily limits and session limits placed on the erc
