From what I understood the high price of internal methods such as PRECICE/STRYDE is caused by the fact that these nails cannot be reused. External devices such as Ilizarov can be reused, therefore they are cheap.

Do you think it would be possible to make STRYDE nail reusable?

Maybe it doesnt make sense from a business point of view to make them reusable, because NuVasive wont sell anymore, so no more profit.

The safety is most important for anyone!  The external devices can be cleaned and sanitized, although I don't think that is a good idea.  But internal devices can't be because they stay inside of bone for years so it is so hard or perhaps impossible just to clean them off.  And then they need to be sanitized which is also challenging without damaging devices.  Another risk is that internal device is very complex unlike external ones.  Even new ones may have chance to have defects although it is very unlikely.  Let alone, reused internal devices should have much higher risk of malfunctions.  So it just does not make sense to reuse them.  It is always better to be safe.  If something wrong happens, the company and drs. will be in trouble.  Therefore, there is no reason for the company and Drs. to try to reuse them.  I think that is a right thing to do.

Most internal nails don't have a reverse mechanism, so it would be impossible to reuse them just for this reason.

When Musicmaker's nail failed after Monegal's mistakes Monegal reused it. What a lack of ethics. Of course it failed again. Poor Musicmaker.

Doesnt PRECISE 1,2 and 3, all have reverse mechanism? These are the only relevant nails, because these are the expensive ones.

Yes, it would be possible, only if the nails could change its size, because different sizes are used in femur and tibia.

As far as I know, Precice nails (likely Stryde) have a reverse mechanism and I sort of remember fitbone nails have it.  So your reason is probably not applied.

Precice has it. Fitbone doesn't.
