I'm a woman, late twenties, in the U.S. and want to get tibial lengthening (around 5 or 6cm) in Europe next year. I'll be in western Europe for several months for school and was wanting to get the lengthening done during this period. Since I want externals for tibias and because cost is a huge factor, I was thinking about Dr. Mitkovic or Dr. Catagni. I've read mixed reviews about both. Does anyone have any recommendations? And do you think it would be possible to do lengthening and school at the same time?

Hi Anon

First of all, it is absolutely impossible to do lengthening and school at the same time especially with external device.  Even if you reveal to classmates that you are lengthening, pain, discomfort, and potential complications will make you stop studying.  You need to finish lengthening at least before you get back to normal life including school.  5-6 cm lengthening may take about 3 months if everything goes well.  I also recommend you to do LON or LATN (if your tibias are not straight), which will allow you to remove frames after lengthening and to walk.
Regarding Drs., you can also consider Dr. Giotikas in Greece, if that is convenient for you.

Good luck!

Have you considered Dr. Betz in Germany? I had my femurs done this year with Betz. So far I’m satisfied.

Betz is among the worst. Especially for tibia.

It’s better not to do tibias with any doctors in Europe
Mitkoovic Serbia?  Someone here reported rape cases in Serbia when lengthening there
Dr Catagni is too old now he will refer you to Dr Pili
Dr Pili is also not good at all
Dr Giotika I don’t understand why some people keep recommending, he’s new and already lots bad information coming out
I’ve done quite a research regarding tibias
There is no doctor in Europe I can recommend for tibias to any of my friends so far
If you don’t have money now then wait till you earn and save more money to buy safety

He had many tibia patients who got permanent nerve damage. When things go bad he often neglects his patients and lies to them that everything is fine. There have been and still are a bunch of lawsuits against him from former patients.
He thinks he is the best and therefore has become very careless. He sells his own nail which is against regulations. The patient has no way to know what kind of implant he uses on them. Since the European regulations for medical products are without any effective control. As a surgeon his skills are limited. He's basically a one trick pony in performing the femur surgery where he has routine, after having had enough patients who served as his guinea pigs.
For tibia he is absolutely horrible.
He is not to be trusted.
