Time between two surgeries

I intend to undergo limb lengthening surgery on both femurs and tibias. From what I understand, it is advised not to have a second surgery immediately after the first one. What is the optimal timeframe to wait before undergoing another procedure? Is it around a year, two years, or longer?

In case complications arise, how much time is typically needed to address them before moving forward with the second surgery?

Why do you believe there is a maximum?

The earliest time is 6 months or when your initial bones are 90% healed. If timed accurately, it is feasible to extract the first set of nails and insert new ones for the other set of bones during the same procedure.

Start by extending the femurs by 7-8 cm, and then reassess if you desire additional height. According to numerous surgeons, the majority of patients are content afterward unless your initial height is exceptionally short.

If you are absolutely sure about undergoing both procedures, it is advisable to have them concurrently (with a few weeks in between, but the same recovery time). Postponing one after the other for recovery is equivalent to pausing your life for 2 years.

However, the most efficient option is to undergo 8 cm femur limb lengthening in one go and be done with it.

You may perform the other surgery a month following the initial one when your body has healed from the first one. Alternatively, you can undergo the second surgery immediately after completing the limb lengthening process of the initial segment. You could also opt to wait until the first segment has entirely consolidated. The decision will vary based on your body’s tolerance and your desire to maximize limb lengthening. I chose to have the femurs operated on a month after the tibia surgery. Perhaps waiting until the tibias had lengthened (an additional 3 weeks) would have been more beneficial. The second surgery disrupts the lengthening, recovery, and stretching of the initial segment if performed during the lengthening phase. This made it more challenging to optimize the lengthening of my tibia.

My understanding is some doctors perform the surgeries sooner while others wait longer between the two procedures.
