My theory is that the height gains he achieved saved him from all the unnecessary stress and mental torture the he would have experienced otherwise in the following decades of his life.

However, I'd encourage everyone to keep in mind that he did fully external tibia lengthening, so his case doesn't really reflect what's gonna happen to internal femur lengthening patients.
