Hi everyone,
I just wanted to ask about whether i could gain 10cm safely? If i went with a very experienced surgeon and got two lengthenings with rigorous rehab and PT for a long time, could i return back to my previous athletic ability or even surpass it? If not, what would be the MAX safe limit as I really want to gain at least 3 inches of height.

Hey, friend!

Got this from Dr. Donghoon Lee:

1. Femur lengthening – max. 8cm (3.15in.); lengthening period of 8cm is about
12 weeks

2. Tibia lengthening – max. 6cm (2.36in.); lengthening period of 6cm is about
12 weeks

3. Femur lengthening of 4cm then 6 months after another 4cm lengthening
(lengthening period of 4cm (1.57in.) is about 6 weeks)

4. Tibia lengthening of 4cm then 6 months after another 4cm lengthening
(lengthening period of 4cm (1.57in.) is about 8 weeks)

5. Femur or Tibia lengthening one leg at a time and lengthening the other leg
(max. lengthening length and lengthening period is same as #1 and #2)

6. Simultaneous tibia and femur lengthening (max 8cm (3.15in.) in total;
lengthening period of tibia and femur each lengthening up to 4cm is about 12
weeks in total)

"You may consider simultaneous tibia + femur lengthening. The possible recommended maximum length is total of 8cm (4cm each) but if the patient’s condition and rehabilitation is good enough then one can possibly go for total of 10cm. Nevertheless, it’s important to consider your overall body proportion with your arm length as well that this should be discussed with Dr. Lee during your initial consultation.""

7. Tibia lengthening up to 6cm then 1 year after femur lengthening up to 8cm
(max 14cm (5.51in.); up to 6cm tibia lengthening and up to 8cm femur
lengthening each takes about 12 weeks)

8. Simultaneous tibia and femur lengthening then at least 1 year after
additional simultaneous tibia and femur lengthening (max 16cm (6.29in.);
lengthening period of tibia and femur each lengthening up to 4cm is about 12
weeks)

Search his videos and about him, and see what he says about recover and etc. Also go to Palley CLL site and see the surgery programs.

Paley: 8cm femur 5cm tibia a year later. or quadrilateral 4cm femur and tibia with a rebreak a year later and repeating the same.

correct. its a safe method actually but lengthy (time wise), probably draining mentally and physically and very expensive.

What would be the best combination across femur and tibia for a 10cm gain? I’ve heard that 6 and 4 or 7 and 3 are quite good

I think something like 4.5 on femur and 3 on tibia would put you in a really strong position for recovering most athletic ability later on. I think getting 3 inches of height gain but being able to run and jump well is better than 4 inches of height gain but feeling tension in your legs when doing these things.

Remember that at 6-7-8 cm femur and 4-5 cm tibia the soft tissue really gets a lot of pressure. Some will argue that it is not worth doing tibia for only 3 but I think the tibia are so complex because of the ankle, the fibular bone as well etc. that it is best to be conservative.

It would be interesting if we had a big study on post athletic recovery at various lengths. The question remains though. How much athletic ability is lost due to the surgery alone and how much is lost due to lengthening of the soft tissue? I suspect that lengthening past certain cm range will have a bigger impact than the surgery itself in the long run. But I also do not have real data to back up my suspicion. So it remains an open question and this remains limited to my suspicion from reading diaries on here.

6 + 4 probably if you really want 10cm.
