I went through most of the diaries on this forum to count how many people chose to go out of their country to get LL. I treat Europe as one country and included only diaries with a reasonable amount of detail and completeness,

It is very clear that most patients choose to go to doctors where live in and can remain indefinitely for rehabilitation and future care. Also there were so many diaries where patients expressed their desire to stay local. As you seriously consider doing this surgery and consult doctors you start to prefer to not go to a different country.
I didn't include Russia and India and those are 2 countries where lots of foreign patients went possibly to save money.

I’m here in Athens and did CLL abroad. I have completed my lengthening on Thursday and will return home soon. I might complete my dairy when I get home on my computer which is easier to type. Surprisingly that are A LOT of CLL patients that are not aware of this forum or they are just lurkers. There are currently 10 patients including myself doing PT at the Theseus and only me & Planning are using this forum. Oh we’re all from abroad and there are no current local CLL patient here. Plus the doctor doesn’t like us using this forum because of all the negative and false details and every patients doing CLL has different symptoms. So if one patient read about another patient symptoms from a dairy, it’s set into their mind that they might experience the same.

I saw your diary as well but I think I couldn't tell if you were local or not. I consider Europeans getting LL in Europe as locals because they can stay there indefinitely. One of the reasons I started exploring this is because where ever I want to get LL I have to finish it in 90 days because that is the maximum I am allowed to stay in most foreign countries: Europe, US and South Korea. I think 90 days is too short if you want 7-8cm. At least 4-7 days to settle down, 7 days of waiting after surgery for lengthening and then many patients slow down on several days to battle nerve pain and slow consolidation. Look at diaries like tiggy, verticalpush. Their LL took longer than the standard 1mm per day. Dr Donghoon in South Korea, most European doctors suggest getting a visa extension before 90 days gets over. American doctors don't promise anything. Getting more than 90 day stay in US is quite hard.

Maybe the situation in Athens is similar to the situation in Germany with Dr. Betz.
I spent more than 6 months in Germany with Dr. Betz and most of my fellow LL'ers were foreigners. Most of them not Europeans (I'd say the Europeans would be around 30% to 40%).
Germany is very liberal in giving extended visas. I'm from a South American country and we don't even need a visa to visit Germany for 90 days (meanwhile the US treats any South American as a potential illegal immigrant...lol).
When I arrived in Frankfurt and said I was going to have a surgery the immigration authorities gave me a 6 month stay. And when I needed more they gave me an indefinite extension for my recovery (the visa had some instruction in german close to "until rehabilitation is complete").
But that was back in 2012-2013. Not sure how it is now.

oh so Dr lee suggest more than 90, how can i get more than 90 if thats what the visa permits?

Well I’m not good with geography, but the patients here are from the 2 USA, 1 Brazil, 1 Norway, 3 China, 1 Ireland, 1 Russia and 1 England. I was informed that I will most likely not need a visa but when the time from that I do they will assist with that. I was able to reach the max of 8cm on Stryde before my 90days.
Not sure about other doctor but my doctor informed me that during surgery a 3mm cutting tool was use to break my femurs plus using the ERC to lengthen 1mm to insure the Stryde is lengthening, so technically that -4days well -1day if you don’t include the 3mm cut. So that leaves 76 or 79 days of lengthening, so yea the 90days with 1mm a day of lengthening is pretty close.
Depending on how your body, legs bone, heals it’s either going to be over the 90days or less than the 90days. You won’t really know for sure till the 2nd follow up appointment or 1 months post ops X-ray. I was able to lengthen 1.25 a day during my last month of lengthening due to good bone consolidation.
