Dear fellow forum members,
my operation with Dr. Betz will start next week.
Therefore I thought of writing a little diary.
I plan to stay one month in germany at his clinic, because the physiotherapists there are specialised in limb legnthening and I am very unflexible.

Here are some general informations about me:

sxx: male
Age:28
Height: 176cm
Target: 182cm
Wingpan: 178cm
Girlfriends height: 179cm
Flexibility: Very unflexible
Pain tolerance: Mel Gibson

2 Years ago I thought about limb lenghtening. I have a 6f 3,5 brother and a 5ft 10 sister. My father it 6ft 2.
Both of my parents are doctors. My father is a dermatologist and my mother an accident surgeon.
They have both there own clinic and there judgement has an important influence on my decission.
Due to prior experience in there field of work and the good reputation of german clinics, we decided that Germany would be the best option for such a complicated surgery.

We visited several clinics who offered limg leghtening. Dr. Baumgart and Dr. Betz were in the closer selection.

In our opinion Dr. Betz had following advantages:
The secretary office gave us better information, thus they where more symapthic.
Dr. Betz spend over 4 hours time with us and answered every question in detail.
Both doctors told us about the pros and cons of all nails, but the Betzbone has in our opinion several advantages over the Fitbone.
Dr. Betz as a good reputation in his country and it seems he is a luminary in his field.

Of course there are also some disadvantages with Dr. Betz.

Since I am not a very sportiv guy, I dont care about a lack in athleticism.
I also dont have extrem long legs but rather long arms.

With 182cm I would be slitly above the average of Western european male. Althoug the statistical surveys are quite old and I am sure the younger generation is already taller.

If anybody has some questions please be free to contact me.

I come from Brussels.

My sister is 10 years younger. Could be due to better nutrition. I loved chocolate as a kid.
On the other hand, my sister and brother where a lot heavier when my mum gave birth to them.
And I came a bit early.

Since 2 years I could convince my gf for some reason to delay the meeting with her parents.  Femur lenghtening with Dr Betz 01.09.2017
In there Family everybody except for the mother are giants.  Femur lenghtening with Dr Betz 01.09.2017 Femur lenghtening with Dr Betz 01.09.2017

Lol, I loved chocolate too as a kid and I still do. I doubt it stunted our growth though.

And even premature kids tend to catch up with their peers at one point in life. It is hilarious how you included your girlfriend height hahahahha

Albizzia nails like Gnail and Betzbone really do have advantages. Weightbearing changes a lot in quality of life during lengthening, faster recovery and prevents muscle atrophy. However, keep in mind that they do not have a backwards function and this is a problem in cases of non unions. In any case, the vast majority of healthy young males have a proper consolidation and do not require such a function so long as they lengthen in a safe manner and to a conservative goal no more than 7 cm.

Also, the sweet sweet pain, all my LL classmates felt... you are in for a treat. Don't worry, you will forget the pain and even miss it a little. Funny thing is the human mind Femur lenghtening with Dr Betz 01.09.2017

Bon courage!

exemple : http://www.rennesvolley35.fr/pros/effectif-et-staff / https://www.dunkerque-basket.com/en-savoir-plus/joueuses-56236

Advantages of betzbone over fitbone:

Less technology:
Due to the fact that the betzbone is lengthening mechanically via clicking, and the fitbone has an internal motor, the probability of malfunction is higher when more technology is involved.

Weight bearing and quick recovery:
The betzbone is weight bearing, so I can immediately walk on crutches and after the lengthening I can walk normal. (I saw patients walking on crutches one day after their surgery)

I can operate both of my femurs at once:
Doing one leg after the other and walking with shoe implants is complicated, the duration of lengthening is longer and it leads to an unsecure gait pattern.

The fact that the Betzbone has more lengthening capacity does not affect me.

Disadvantages:

Clicking:
The biggest disadvantage is the clicking for me. I am not very flexible, and bending my legs to a certain angle a couple of times every day do gain my weight frightens the hell out of me.
The doctor showed me the exact angle and it was pretty easy but that was with a healthy leg.
I talked to some other patients and one woman told me, that by accident she clicked one time and it’s very easy. I assume she is very flexible and after 5 cm it won’t be that easy.
I read in a forum that there are rumors that some patients had to click in anesthesia, because the pain was to strong.
I confronted the doctor and his mate during our session with this topic. And they told me that these persons don’t do their physio.
According to Dr. Betz 30 percent of the lengthening process has to do with the operation. The rest is the physiotherapy and how you do your exercises.
He told me that he had some patients, who took every think very serious and they did not had any pain at all. And some spoiled rich Arabic people think every think goes after the operation for it self.
He also told me that woman can deal better with the pain.

Location:
The Betz institute might be more near to my home but the location of the ZEM institute of Baumgart is amazing. Direct in munich, it has a lot of variety.
Where the clinic of Betz is literally in no mans land.
