Hi everyone, I've not posted in a long time but am still saving money for my LL. I make decent money for now, but still need to save for cost. Currently aiming for an LL within the next two years...

My question is for those of you who've done LL, how did you get your company/insurance pay for your surgery since LL is cosmetic?!

Also, what was your employment situation like since LL needs a few months of recovery time?

I'm trying to plan for LL now and would like to set my life up in whatever ways that I can for the surgery. Any inputs would be greatly appreciated.

I got insurance pay for an emergency surgery, but not the actual CLL procedure itself.  Doubt they’ll pay for nail removal either.  I suspect in the virtually impossible chance an insurance company would pay for it, you’d have to be a 5’2” or shorter man where the issues of shortness become a lot less subjective medically and psychologically.  Even then, I doubt it.

Nobody really talks about it here, but if you have good credit you could possibly get a loan to pay for some of the surgical costs.  I could afford it out of pocket but still got a 5y loan to pay for 75% of it to keep my cash on hand for complications and life.

Insurance covered physical therapy and fixator removal in my case, with doctor rozbruchs colleague doctor Taylor rief. Sadly he was booked 1 month up aprx so I had the femur fixators taken off back in Istanbul, another month with them would’ve pushed me to the brink of suicide

It is impossible for an insurance company to pay for this procedure in a cosmetic way, the only "viable" way, although very difficult, would be for a really small patient, and with serious and proven psychological problems, that could put his life at risk because of his short stature.

I am full time employed at a big American bank in London and paid the surgery including all extra costs myself. The Bank had no problem to give me 4 weeks leave, all they asked for is a letter by Betz, which he provided in a matter of a day or two. Right now I am still in my lengthening phase and working full time 5 days a week from home.

I am privately insured via my Bank with AXA, but the policy states something along the lines of "no cosmetic procedures or procedures resulting from cosmetic procedures". Now we all know it is not a "cosmetic" thing as clearly the implications of our condition are much more profound especially if there are leg length discrepancies, but proving that to the insurance company would have been so cumbersome that I didn't want to go down that route because in the end they wouldn't have paid for an intramedullary system from Germany anyway.

As for financing, do absolutely not use loans for this procedure. A loan should be your very last resort if something goes wrong. If you don't have the money to pay for the surgery outright then probably you cannot afford it yet full stop. You don't want to end up in the situation where you have broken legs and money problems.
