I think you lose 0.3-0.4mm due to compression if I'm correct?
It's a tough choice for me cause I'd want 6cm and not lower, however I know there are more risks once crossing 6cm so I'm not sure cause 6.4cm all of a sudden seems much bigger risk
If you want to gain 6cm Tibia how much should you lengthen further?
I'm curious to know more about this as well, did you ever find anything out that was concrete @GeTs?
Depends on the device, with monorials at most you Will get .3 mm less, with Ilizarov there is generally a larger lose. Some Catagni patients lose something near to 1.5 cm.
how about LON and LATN?

I have read there are higher infections rates with LON. Not sure about LATN
I personally wouldn't really care about how much further to lengthen to reach a specific height because there are safe limits that you should never exceed (~20% of original bone length). So I would just try to lengthen as much as possible within the safe limits regardless of the amount of lengthening because even if you didn't reach your lengthening goal, you shouldn't be lengthening beyond the safe limits anyway!

That's crazy, someone not knowing going for and expecting to be 5'9 would end up barely 5'8 in this case. Imagine all that time, effort and money to be a whole cm and half shorter than planned.

Yes, that is the disadvantage of external fixation

I don't think it happens to all external fixation cases, at least at that degree.
In my case I haven't lost anything (or at least not more than 2mm which is almost non countable).
Bodybuilder, you remember the idiot that said he got his frames removed in 4 months without a nail. He said he had lost half a cm. Maybe it is that those who aren't ready to have their frames removed without support or being ready risk losing some height.
