Hi I am a new member (very long time lurker). I have finally saved up enough money to do this. Basically I really want to leg lengthening but my wingspan is 5cm below average (166cm wingspan/171cm height).... I'm already completely fked proportion wise and will be even more fked after I do leg lengthening...
I was planning to external Tibia and external Humerus but after researching on the forums, it seems like that it's impossible to do both at the same time because apparently "you need your arms". I'm not planning to get both surgery done at the exact same time, I was thinking of doing my Humerus first and after a few weeks when my arms can regain basic function again, I want to do external tibia to save considerable time. Because from what I've heard, Tibia alone can take almost a year, and Humerus alone can take almost a year as well. I really cannot stay at a hospital for 2 YEARS!!! I have a job, I have a life, 2 years is just impossible for me....
I have 2 questions:
1. Why is it impossible to do both external Humerus and external Tibia at the same time? From what I've seen through videos, people's arms and hands still function very well even during the humerus lengthening process so why would it be a issue? I've seen a video where some guy who had a monorail fixing on his Humerus and was doing push-ups against the wall... So the arms are definitely still usable!! Can't I just use a wheel chair to get around instead of a walking stick?
2. If I REALLY can't do both external Humerus and external Tibia at the same time, then is it possible to do STRYDE on my Tibia so that I am completely weight bearing and then do my external Humerus once I am able to walk? From what I've seen, people can walk almost immediately after surgery once they have STRYDE nail surgery done. I am willing to spend the extra money to do expensive STRYDE nail if this plan is possible.
PS: I am also willing to do Femurs instead of my Tibias if it makes any difference. I am definitely not doing my Tibias and Femurs at the same time because I'm pretty sure that breaking and lengthening 6 limbs is physically impossible for the human body... unless I'm wrong?
Thank you in advance for any help...!
Is there any way to do Humerus (arm) and Tibia (leg) at the SAME time?
@dunghuynh2227
But look at this video... His arms/hands are fully functioning after like a month. He is doing push ups on the wall. Can't I just get Tibia lengthening surgery after 1 month? What do you think? If I use wheelchair instead of crutches then I will not have much stress on my arms anyway.
@Iron_Man
Hey thanks for the reply. Yeah my proportions are definitely fked. My arms look very short and ridiculous when I wear shoes that give me only 5cm lift.
I could take a photo but I have no photoshop skills so I don't know how. I'm 99% sure my proportions are messed up anyway so there is no point. My only hope is humerus lengthening.
The only good thing for me is that my sitting height is 94cm so I guess that is pretty good for limb lengthening... I have short legs and long torso.
@afaq379006
Yeah I would love to because my forearm is not that long BUT I heard forearm lengthening is very dangerous because there is too much nerve/muscles there.
According to my research Humerus is the most safest limb lengthening (safer than lengthening legs). I'd rather have long weird looking humerus than looking like a T-Rex.
@wavemaker5
Wow that is interesting. I had no idea they did Internal precise nail in the Humerus. I am not sure if Internal or External is safer with Humerus but lengthening the Humerus is the safest from what I've heard so I think both options will be okay. In that case I guess I am open to do Internal Humerus as well.
Did you ever ask them if you can do Internal Humerus + Internal Tibia at the same time?
@wavemaker5
Honestly I think external humerus might be safer AND cheaper, just my personal opinion. I did a lot of digging around in the past and I've never heard of a doctor doing internal humerus so this might be a new thing. I'm very surprised that you said Dr Paley only does internal humerus which is the only thing that makes me question myself.
Seems like there are far more doctors who has experience doing externals on Humerus and most of the research that says Humerus is the safest limb to lengthen is probably only counting the procedures done on Externals.
I agree with your concerns on potential knee pain. Ideally I'd like to do externals on both my Tibia and Humerus as well. It's cheaper and probably safer. I'm going to get tattoos to cover the scars anyway so it's literally a non-issue for me. The only reason I would ever consider internal nails is if I can't do both external Tibia and Humerus at the same time.
