Hi everyone,
I am new on the forum. have read various posts about the acceptable gain for the body through LL surgery. I recently read an article by Dr. Paley: I put the link here: https://www.mdpi.com/2227-9067/8/7/540 From what I understood from his paper he was able to practice LL surgery and have gains beyond 13-16cm on short people with a genetic condition. Could this technique be applied to people without a genetic condition? Some people gave some negative feedback about the Betz nail but it seems it is the only one that can go past 15 cm if you have a femur and tibia LL surgery. What do you think?

I think age might be a factor. How old are you and your current height? Why would you try going to 16cm gain?

No matter your starting height , with 8 cm femur and 5 cm tibia , you would be 13 cm taller then you are right now .
It's a world of a difference !
And those are the max safe limits (u are not being conservative with those numbers) , why someone would want to go past that ?
I think the safest way to do what you said it's to do one segment and then heal.
Then do the other segment and heal, and then rebreak the first segment .
That being little "safer" with soft tissues because if you to simultaneous lengthening ,no good doctor will allow you to have 13 cm altogether because tibia and femurs muscles are connected ,they are not two different groups ,therefore when you stretch one you stretch all and when you stretch both...
To summarize you probably have to do both segments and then rebreak one of them( femur better ) .
With betz you probably can do that in just 2 segments but....this forums provide enough infos on why you should not .
Hi,
I am 1 m71 for 165 pounds. I am a 39 year old male.
Thank you very much.

You are young but not for the standard of this surgery therefore you will encounter probably slightly higher chances of some complications.
If you want ,no natter what , to go beyond 180 cm , I suggest to do 6.5 femur and 4.5 tibia.
You would be 6 ft (182cm) with a relatively conservative amount of lengthening per segment .
Don't push the nail at the max of his capacity ,they are not meant for CLL but for LLD .
This is my opinion , I didn't get the surgery yet but I did as much research as I could and those are my personal conclusions and my functionality goes before any kind of height .
Be conservative since ur starting height is not that bad

Below what height would you recommend for LL in your opinion?

I can't answer that because it's a personal thing .
I am 5'9 and I want it ,but I know it's not necessary .
If you are 5'11 and above just forget about it .
5'10 it's very debatable but you are in that limbo that I can still understand .
5'9 its still debatable but more understandable .
Under that I believe LL can benefit anyone but also ruin them .
My family is shorter then me ,my brothers too and they don't care at all and they would not do this surgery even if it was for free .
It has to be a personal deep desire/call therefore for a general rule makes no sense .
As I stated in another topic too , online very short ppl seems to be lonely , ugly , losers while out there they are very intresting people and also very powerful ones doing great things , pretty wife's and big companies .
The thing about power and money related to hight it's a non sense ;real life it's different.
But your call is your call so it's about personal perception up to 5'10 ;over that I don't feel this surgery is needed at all or moral to be performed by a surgeon .
