For Greece and Italy is nor wrong at all.
For spain it is too much, Spaniards are shorter than both Greeks and Italians.

For Brazil I don't know but I think the real height must be 2-3 cm more.

You mean 2-3cm less?
Because I don't think brazilians are that tall in average.

2-3cm more than 1.69 which says the survey.
I don't think that the average Brazilian is not even 1.71.

Oh, sorry, I thought you meant the first post data.
Yeah, Brazilians are probably around 1,73m average, depends a LOT on the region since Brazil is pretty big.

Since I have been in Belgium I can tell you that the flemish (the tallest part of Belgium according to studies) average is no more than 176-77 cm (absolute max 178)
most average are overestimated
they were exactly the same as french, if not shorter. I was chocked because I really believed they were giants
so the 181,5 cm of average make me laugh

I also have been in Macedonia. They weren't taller than French
I dont understand why French have the reputation of short guys (I noticed that many english and eastern european believe it and it come from Napoleonian wars), while in my experience this is not the case. Norwegian, irish, belgian, macedonian, albanian, english, swiss are not taller from my experience and if they are this is about 4cm at best. Albanian and turkish are clearly under french average
of course, this is only what I have seen with my eyes, so no scientific proof. But in that list czech are probably the most accurate from my experience

In the future I hope to visit Netherlands, Lithuania, Slovakia, Poland, Belarus, Serbia, Ethiopia and if possible South Sudan (but it looks at bit too expensive and difficult) to have my own opinion. Travelling in Europe is cheap, so let's do it.

it seems that European people are all insecure, even more English or American, so making something good will be difficult. But some average are good, for exemple something between 174,5 and 177 is probably true for France. Under that this is too low, and above this is too high.

Studies showed the Dinka-Nuer average as 176 cm, if you live in UK, Australia or the USA you can meet the diaspora to have your opinion. This is not the only ethnicity to be quite tall in Africa : Wolof, Tutsis, Masai, etc

Yea, absolute  . And I don't understand how the Bosnian/Croatian/slovenian/serbian average can be 181 (it seems already overestimated in my opinion) according to studies and the dinaric alps average be 186 ?

Hong Kong 171  list of countries with higher averages of height
Spain 178  list of countries with higher averages of height
Korean people taller than Azeris or Iranian People  list of countries with higher averages of height
Lithuanian 176,5  list of countries with higher averages of height (they look taller) so turkish people about the same average as lithuanian  list of countries with higher averages of height
Taiwan 172  list of countries with higher averages of height

it seems that developed asian countries (Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong) overestimate their average quite much

Quote from: CaptainAmerica on September 26, 2018, 05:40:17 PMAre height distributions left-skewed? While I don't doubt the true average for Americans is probably 5'10, I do feel like I see among young people more people who are 6ft+ than people I see under 5'8, though maybe it's just because larger people are easier to notice?

I mentioned that I erred the title of the topic, the correct one would be regions of the world with the highest stockings in height.
These studies are done with real measurements not asking the height, for example in Brazil the mandatory enrollment of all 18 year olds is made annually and the actual measurements are taken, the current regional studies show a very large growth mainly in the South region of Brazil. brazil where colonies are german, italian polonais, the means are between 1.74 and 1.77m and average of Brazil everything is in 1.75m.
In common sites will say the average of the Brazilian is between 1.69-1.70 but they are research of the 80's.
also on common sites with outdated surveys show U.S.A height
as 1.75 (5'9) but we know that regionally is not exactly so.

The average of the spain is smaller to return of 1.71 but in madrid the average is bigger,

Really ? you are questioning surveys that measure a large part of the population, for a simple visual experience, remember that the average is the value of sum is division by total, if there is a region 2 groups, a group of people with 1.70m and another group of 1.90m the average will be 1.80m even if you have very few people with exactly 1.80m (5''11)

and logic that has outdated values, the dates are next, surveys with more than 18 years have much greater margin of error
