Day 159

Recently I started slowly practicing standing and walking
And go to the swimming pool to walk or do squats
There are also some hot spa equipment next to the swimming pool.
Very convenient for me to use
Same as everyone at the moment
Every morning, my calves and knees are the stiffest.
It will be better if i exercise for a while
 And ballet feet
Now the heel seems to be about 0.5 to 1 cm away from the ground.
Still need to patiently carry out walking rehabilitation
In addition, the most troublesome problem is often
The wound on my calf is itchy
 A bit like eczema
 Makes me uncomfortable every day
 What makes me happiest is
Recently I was finally able to take a shower in the bathroom
 The long-lost shower head
 so comfortable
At this stage, apart from cooking
I can handle everything in my daily life by myself, such as going to the toilet, bathing, etc.
Although still sitting in a wheelchair
But the body is more flexible
The next step is continuous rehabilitation exercises.

Day 195 days

Walking and squatting are the two main exercises that I have been doing recently.
The right leg is making good progress
The size is also getting bigger
But my left leg will hit the knee because of the intramedullary nail.
Causes pain during activities and less progress
And it will take another year before it can be demolished
 This is really troublesome
I can only dismantle it and then exercise hard again.
It turned out that I wanted the doctor to reinsert the intramedullary nail.
But I gave up the idea because I was worried that it would increase the risk of complications.

I still have pain in my ankle recently
 Especially after prolonged exercise
For example, walk for an hour
Knees and ankles may also feel stiff when l stand up after resting for a long time
Now my ballet feet have improved and I can step on the floor barefoot.
Sometimes I feel that progress is very slow and I am a little worried
It turns out that this surgery is not as easy as the online videos.
But I read the information on the forum
Everyone seems to feel better about eight months after the first surgery.
I hope I can have a good recovery level when I get there

Day 235

I wake up every morning with stiff ankles and knees.
It takes about 2 minutes to get a better gait.
I feel pain in the tendons near my ankles when I sleep at night

The current sports I do are
 1. Quarter Squat with a load of 50kg
 2. Going up stairs: right foot is normal, left foot is weak
 3. Walk on a slope and walk sideways
 4. Stand on tiptoes on one leg

 Dorsiflexion has not recovered much
 Stiff calf tendon
 If I stretch too hard
 Achilles tendon pain
I was afraid of tearing my tendon, so I didn't dare to stretch too hard.
 My left knee still hurts
Because the intramedullary nail hits the patellar tendon
But there are some good points
But the thigh muscle of the left leg is still smaller than the right leg
The right leg is recovering better.
The left leg seems to be weak due to the intramedullary nail.
If you have surgery, please remind the doctor to install the intramedullary nail deeper.
 Preferably below the tibial plateau

I feel my feet haven't recovered well yet.
Especially if l sit for more than 15 minutes and then stand up
The legs will be very stiff
Every step will be difficult.
 Ankle pain
I don't know how long it will take to recover.
 I will continue to persevere
Hope it will get better slowly

Day 332

left +4.1 cm
Right +4.8 cm

Ankle pain and stiffness decreases over time
But it hasn't fully recovered yet.
The stiffness when getting up in the morning is still the strongest
But it takes a few minutes to recover compared to the previous three months.
Now it will take a few seconds to recover and be able to walk
Getting off the bus is also faster
The feeling of physical recovery seems to be getting better month by month
Sometimes the process will regress
I don't know if it's because I exercise more.
But then things will get better
Previously the pain was centered around the ankle
While the activity
Then there will be pain or soreness in the front, back, left and right parts
It seems to be pain from nearby inflamed ligaments or nerves
The above situation has gradually improved over time.
The angle range of activity is gradually increasing
I was worried that I would walk like an old man for the rest of my life.
Terrified
Now I am slowly recovering and feeling more confident.
I hope that those who are discouraged by the slow recovery from surgery will be more patient.
Just like what other friends said
This is a surgery that takes time to recover.
It's been about 11 months now and I'm starting to feel like I'm getting back to normal.
Before, I could only take care of myself.
But the recovery was not good.

Currently, I mainly walk and try to walk 10,000 steps a day
Squat 100-200 times a day
Calf Raises 100-200 reps
There are also some ankle stretches
Apply heat when you have time

I think finding ways to increase blood flow should be a key point
Can take away locally retained waste
It can also increase local growth nutrients

Almost a year and you haven't recovered after 5 cm? Did you do this in Turkey?

No, I'm not in Turkey. I guess the reason for it taking so long is probably because I'm older (40), or because I couldn't do any exercise or rehabilitation during the extended period because of the huge external fixator, so my recovery was slower and I couldn't do any rehabilitation until it was removed.

How are you feeling now? Hope you're doing better. Do you regret the surgery or still feel it was worth every bit?

The feeling of my feet is getting better and better
But progress is slow
It usually takes a month to feel better
I can't run yet.
Just brisk walking and slight jumping
during recovery
Because of morning stiffness
I am afraid that I will be walk like an old man forever and regret it.
But recently this situation has gradually disappeared
I won't regret it.
I think this surgery is awesome.
Changed my life
Why didn't I have this surgery sooner?
How great it would be if I did it when I was 25
But I think the most important thing for this surgery is to find the right doctor
Also, extend the safety range
Don't challenge your physical limits.
Because if you fail the challenge
It causes lifelong mobility problems
Not to mention sports.
It is meaningful to make yourself recover as fully as possible after the extension.
This is also the reason why I later changed my goal from 5 cm to more than 4 cm.
