I have a talk to Dr. Betz in the next fews days. I have already compiled my list of questions but if some of you have a special question, particularly to his nail or his technique and procedure or also complications and problems, please let me know. I will include it in my list.
Why does he promote such extreme lengthening numbers to his prospective patients (8cm+)?
Not even Paley is willing to go beyond 8cm - with the best IM nails in the market - during a single segment lengthening.
I mean, JFC:
QuoteOur patients can gain up to 4-5 inches (10-12 cm) in one operation on upper legs (femurs) or lower legs (tibias). Patients may also gain a total of 8-9 inches (20-22 cm) in 2 operations.
1st operation on femur for 4-5 inches (10-12 cm)
2nd operation on tibias for 4 inches (10 cm). The amount of gain in tibias may vary from patient to patient. In many cases it is advised by Prof. Dr. Betz to lengthen up to 6-8 cm in tibias.
Patients gain an average of 7-10 cm in one bone region at the Betz institute.
Why even talk about 10cm and tibias in the same sentence? It's not like the disclaimer makes it any better.
A good question to ask would be why he now regularly uses 2 proximal locking screws in femurs while he used to use only 1 a few years ago.

I'm just curious. He has clearly changed the way of proximal fixation. There should be a reason. It makes a difference for a patient whether he gets 1 or 2 screws implanted, don't you think so?
Excellent initiative ! I m considering Dr Betz myself and would like to knoe if he is planning to use Stryde and if yes, when and for how much.
Thanks for asking !
Hello mrblack, did you talk already with the Dr.? If yes, what was the reply to my question?
I'm also interested in knowing what explanation he has for this.
