The former CCP ruler of China (Deng) was just 4 foot 11 inches tall.. I do not know how he was able to command so much respect with that height..He was regarded as a charismatic and a popular leader.. I definitely do not agree to his theories..but lot of respect to him for able to be a leader with that height

I guess one of the ways for short guys to gain respect is to become a kind of a dictator lol

Putin, Lenin, Stalin, Mussolini, kim jong etc

I'd rather become Brad Pitt or Adrien Brody than becoming Deng Xiaoping if I can voluntarily make the choice.

I would have intelligence like Einstein, oratory skills of Obama , looks of Chris Hemsworth if given a choice. Except that there is NO choice. The point I am trying to make is he became such a great leader overcoming a major handicap such as height and was still able to rule

Two reasons I can think of:

1. Everyone was short in China back then. Food was scarce, especially what was required for a balanced diet. In Chinese neighborhoods in 20th century America, a family in which the 12 year old boy was a head taller than the dad was common to see; no big mystery who the immigrant was.

2. China did not have a superficial culture back then. The one-child policy and increased consumerism has changed Chinese values a lot.

I think only the second reason can make sense.
Deng is only 146-148cm tall and back then Chineses are not that short as you are imagining. I think back then China's average height was 160cm+ so he was extremely short even in the cohort during that time.
But yeah China's society is corroding due to the evil components of modern cultures such as heightism, facism, and yeah also we cannot exclude consumism like you say.
Nowadays on Douyin and Kuaishou and similar platforms you can see some 12-15 y.o girls are uploading short vids where they flaunt their faces, statures, or even with R18 elements, like showing their boobs.
But even back then, as a Chinese even I would still consider becoming Brad Pitt or Adrien Brody(relatively speaking, in China, the counterparts are Daniel Wu, Edison Chen, Nicholas Tse and etc.) rather than becoming Deng Xiaoping. Remember the things that can comprise most of your self-confidence are your height and face, or maybe I am already mentally distorted but in my perspective a good height and face can speak most volumes how much you can achieve others' respects and worships.

Those things like intelligence, oratory skills, and similar attributes can get improved by yourself not like height is unflexible and you will be likely to shrink which means you will only become shorter as aging. BTW intelligence is a pseudoscientific psychological concept which was already tossed into the trash bin by knowledgable expert, and also you can improve your intelligence by reading, solving science/engineering problems and etc. But what about your height? Once your growth plates ossify you can't improve it at all, which is the biggest component of the reason why many short men are overwhelmed in desparates.

You cannot improve beyond a point on any of the stuff that I mentioned like face, intelligence etc..And there are certain traits like height, face, skin color which are given to us.. But he made it big even given those things is what makes it great..Like if you are black, you can look up to actors like Will Smith, Denzel Washington etc. Hollywood is driven by white people but they still did great stuff right? So did Dustin Hoffman etc.. That is what I am trying to say.. Given a choice, of course, I would be Leo DiCaprio or someone like that but when you do not have a choice and still you make it, thats what people find it inspirational..

Philosophy is a good mental masturbation to some degrees. If you learn nihilism or similar stuffs from philosophy, you will know those attributes you mentioned above will make no senses after you death, as well as your deficits, including height, face, etc. So you can feel a lot better after thinking about it this way, at least that's how I am weighing down the importances of those things especially height, otherwise you will freak out one day cuz you've already learned how brutally this world is mistreating you.
