I am 30 years old, originally from Germany but living in Zürich at the moment in Switzerland. I am considering getting a femur lengthing of 8-10cm at Dr. Betz in Germany in around 6 weeks. Currently, I am 1.74cm, but I would like to get over the magical 1.80m or 6 feet in the US limit.
An important question for me (due to financial limitations) would be: When is it possible to walk and work again (I work at an office)? On the website of Dr. Betz it says that you will start walking the day of the surgery to have a fast recovery: https://www.betzinstitute.com/
but I read a lot of threads where they say they can only walk after three months? On the phone and via email they said that I can walk even without crutches soon after the operation because the Betzbone holds my whole body weight shortly after the operation, but it is recommended to use crutches. So what is true? Can I for example stay at the Betz Institute just for 2 weeks get the operation done and the two week rehab at the Betz institute and then move back to Switzerland, doing the rehab 5-6 times a week, but continue to work? Like for example using the crutches while traveling to work with the public transportation, but walk without crutches at work. Is that possible?
Or is that impossible? Even though I am very disciplined and well trained (I have quite a muscular body, because I work out 3-4 times a week)

I did femur lengthening with Dr.Betz at January this year and went back to work 3 weeks after surgery. I didnt work at office so it was hard but it was possible. At work I walked without crutches.
The problem is that 10 cm will need a longer recovery time. Maybe you can try two segments (6+4, 7+5...) in two phases, depending on what you want.
Wouldnt 10 cm be a bit too much. Firstly you will look super disproportionate with rlly long lower legs and a short torso etc. Also the potential side effect and recovery time.
I have heard from contacting patients of Paley that I met while getting a consult, while the surgery is often shown as being cane-only after 2-3 weeks--many patients end up using a walker or crutches for much longer simply because walking becomes painful from muscle tightness etc.
I did femurs with stryde nail and I was walking without a cane or a walker after the first few weeks from the surgery. My gait did not look normal and I was waddling when walking because of weak glutes. One patient at Paley used a walker until end of his lengthening. Several patients were able to transition to a cane quickly.
You shouldn't walk without crutches since the BetzBone can bend or break. I don't think it can really hold your whole weight.
Just don't risk it and use crutches!
10 cm are a lot! Did Betz already consult you or?

Don’t go to betz, his betzbone is same price as stride (Greece, turkey, India/parihar) and has a much higher failure rate of components. Might as well go to giotikas if you’re paying 50k
hanshi compiled betzbone faulty diaries where nail broke in some way and it was about 30% of all patients loooool
dont go to betz if u want full weightbearing. and if u do, don't treat it as a stryde nail. because its not. use crutch and partial weight bear only
