I have very concerned Question I hope I can get an answer from Drs or expertises.

Recently I got an ACL injury while I was playing football and previously I had a plan to undergo a limb lengthening . My Question is Can I do ACL reconstruction surgery before limb lengthening after one month from ACL surgery ?

I appreciate your replying and answering my concern.

Really sorry you’re dealing with the ACL setback. Have you picked a surgeon yet for the reconstruction—and do you already have someone in mind for the lengthening that would follow?

Hope this can help you:
"Whether you can undergo another surgery on your leg one month after ACL surgery depends on several factors, including:

  • Recovery Status after ACL Surgery: One month after ACL surgery, most patients are still in the recovery phase, focusing on regaining muscle strength and improving knee flexibility. Undergoing another surgery could increase the risk of infection or slow down the recovery process.
  • Type of Surgery: If the next surgery is a minor procedure or does not involve the knee area, it might be possible. However, if it involves the leg or knee joint, extra caution is needed.
  • Doctor's Recommendation: The most important factor is consulting with your surgeon to determine if you have had enough time to recover from the ACL surgery and if it's safe to perform another surgery.

Generally, doctors recommend waiting at least 3-6 months after ACL surgery for the body to properly heal and reduce the risk of complications before undergoing another procedure.

If you're planning another surgery, it's important to discuss it thoroughly with your treating physician to create a specific and safe plan."

Medically, it is not considered safe to undergo limb lengthening surgery only one month after an ACL reconstruction.

Here’s a short, informative breakdown:

ACL Healing: An ACL reconstruction requires a long, dedicated rehabilitation period (often 9-12 months). The new graft is very fragile in the first few months as it heals to the bone.
Conflicting Stress: Limb lengthening is also a major procedure that places significant, continuous stress on the knee joint and surrounding tissues.
High Risk of Failure: Performing limb lengthening so soon would almost certainly interfere with the ACL healing, risking failure of the new graft and causing other serious complications.
Most orthopedic specialists would require you to fully complete your ACL recovery and be cleared by your surgeon before considering a separate major surgery on the same leg.
