Recently I have spoken to a friends cousin who also is a orthopaedic specialist operating in uk and Poland. I asked him about cll, if he offers it or has doctors who he’d recommend .He was disgusted by the words that came out my mouth, he told me off for even mentioning it and said to me I was an idiot for considering it ,even more for trying to do it abroad in Greece or if he had anyone he’d “recommend” for such a thing.
He mentioned that doctors would do anything for money which is why people are allowed to do it cosmetically. The option being there doesn’t mean it should taken, advising me to stray far away.

I completely understand the risks that come with cll but he made it out to be as if it’s more likely to make ur paralysed or dead then it being somewhat successful. The surgery is no joke but I wouldn’t even consider it it wasn’t given my circumstances.

So my question is , am I missing something from this surgery? I’ve done a good amount of research and diary reading to know what I’m getting myself into, but yet a specialist describes it 1000x worse than what I’ve seen. Any reply is really appreciated.

He's morally/ethically opposed to the idea and his opinion does not seem fully objective.  Skilled, reputable doctors do this sugery even in the most highly regulated and litigious medical environment in the world: the USA.  It's not just a bunch of charlatans stealing your money and crippling you, although those people do exist.  But this forum and its predecesor have helped to expose them and steer people in the right direction.

It's definitley not good for you, but neither is getting your nose cut open and broken to make it look better.

He's going off pure subjective emotion.  No doubt there are serious complications associated with the procedure but the fact is any kind of surgery has risk of complication.  In fact, you could argue that anything we do on a daily basis has a risk associated with it.  If you step outside your house there's a chance you could get hit by a bus.  If you're driving there's a chance you could get in a car crash.  If you played devil's advocate on everything all the time then you'd just end up living a miserable life.

We have all seen the success stories from people who have undergone LL so we already have proof that it works.  Successful cases far outweigh the ones where complications arise otherwise this procedure wouldn't still be on the market.  Ultimately, you just have to ask yourself whether you are determined enough to take the risk.  Otherwise, your only other option is to accept who you are and hope your height neurosis goes away with age (which is still a risk in itself actually).

He is also right if you are lets say 1,78-1,80 and want to do this surgery.
In all other cases he is just an idiot that can't understand how important is height for a man in this society and maybe he can't understand that LL is safe if it is done from a professional doctor with a normal lengthening rate and amount.

I think I could see why he would be disgusted by the surgery since it's a procedure that takes an immense toll on your body, mind, and finances ( There are lot of people that want to get this surgery done but can't because it's just too much of an investment - mostly monetary ). Also, people don't like other people getting cosmetic surgeries mostly because of jealousy/envy - the feeling of missing out and " If he/she can get it why can't I?" usually lead to " you are going to suffer in 20 years " or " you are going to be a cripple ", that's why you don't see people getting mad or annoyed when someone get other peopular elective surgeries like LASIK ( it doesn't really effect your appearance and other people won't notice unless you tell them).

Death and paralysis is extremely rare for LL as well ( I think there was one death in Korea like 5 years ago but the surgery was done from an unknown hospital and he died from PE - there was a CCTV of him collapsing and the Doctors didn't know how to treat him ). I would say the surgery definitely isn't good for you and you will be losing your full physical potential but you have to make a trade off between that and 6-8cm of height.

Sounds like your friend's cousin is of average height...or maybe even into the tall category for having such strong opposition.

Seems that the vast majority of potential patients would never, ever consider to do it in Turkey or India, just psychological issue.
