Quote from: DoctorStrange on September 04, 2023, 08:38:47 AMHey,
I am not staying at a university, but a private , large room, with my own toilet, bathroom, fridge, microwave. It's the SAS facility, and I get my laundry done, daily cleaning, and daily physio. There's a state of the art Gym I go to for part of physio.
In terms of length/duration, etc, I would say message / email Dr Birkholtz, or go on his website, he replies super quick, and is usually very helpful.
Would you be able to shout me that website or email?
thanks
Dr Birkholtz - The road to new heights | { 175 --> 181-182}| PRECISE FEMURS
And? Did you do the surgery? It has been 12 days since you are gone. What are the news?
Hey DoctorStrange,
In some cases Dr Birkholtz offer rehab facility 2 - 3 weeks to his patients. Do you know if the rehab facility includes staying and three meals per day?
Any update on your surgery Doctorstrange?
Im looking at doing the surgery with Birholtz next yr
Quote from: DoctorStrange on September 02, 2023, 07:42:09 AMIt’s almost surreal to be writing a diary. You begin this journey years before getting the surgery done, vicariously living through the day to day diaries and updates of other patients, but almost never quite believing you will go through with it.
My surgery was in July, 2023, with world renowned surgeon Dr Birkholtz, for bilateral femoral lengthening, including an ITB release. It took place at IOR (world class private orthopaedic institute) in the affluent region of Stellenbosch. I am between 30-40, half Italian, half Asian.
Starting height: About 175cm early noon
Goal height: 181-182cm early noon
Ammount to lengthen: 6.5cm Precise 2.2 FEMURS
Finding the right surgeon has been an almost gruelling and painstaking process. You need to be certain. You need to sometimes look yourself in the mirror and truly be brutal honest - no matter how invested you might be in a particular surgeon.
I had spoken to several surgeons, flown across the world, and had even had my surgery booked in a European country, before cancelling it altogether because I just could not allow myself to undergo this procedure when there were significant doubts and causes for concern. It was painful to walk away, it was painful to cancel a dream I had aligned my whole life around for the last few years.
When doubts surface, when you begin to learn more about worrying surgical techniques, omissions of critical aspects, and you see these manifest in current patients, there is no way I could justify taking this risk, no matter how determined I was. If you take anything from this diary, if anything I am writing makes any difference to your life, do not take the random opinion of lay people online who make claims like “ITB release is not needed” having no medical background at all. Do not fall for well-made websites, good marketing, or the gimmick of weight bearing nails. Engage in objective, meticulous and truly sober research.
Can you ask him if he'll get the new precice max. Seems like they won't have it in Europe till 2025 but he can get it then it'll be great.
Come on guys, Doctor Strange has been kind enough to share so much valid information about his experience. If you have other questions for Dr. Birkholtz, be a big boy and contact him yourself directly. It's always better to speak directly if you are serious about pursuing this. And I'm sure Doctor Strange has better things to do than to be your middleman on 20 follow up questions when he is trying to get through an already difficult process.
Hoping everything is continuing to go well so far. Your diary is easily one of the most competent and articulate on this entire forum site. Like yourself, I am also 175cm with a goal of gaining 6.5cm. Guys like us are lucky to already be scraping average height zone. So just 6.5cm more puts us in a very comfortable 5' 11 1/2" range which easily passes for 6 foot with good posture in shoes.
So no need to take the extra risks of overstretching the tissues trying to get 8 or 9cm in the femurs like many do and risk slower recovery or prematurely arthritic hips/knees.
Anyhow, I can understand if people trying to persuade you to be their middleman turned you off to continuing to post as often. I hope you will reconsider and post some updates about your progress as you go, as it sounds like Dr. Birkholz is the real deal.
Like yourself, I have wrestled with so much skepticism and paranoia about many of the other surgeons and clinics. That's why your experience really spoke to me and if things continue to go positively for you. I would seriously consider giving Dr. Birkholz a shot!
Congratulations on the new height but why didn't you go with 8cm? Is it because of the recovery period or your proportions?
And also, what were your proportions pre op?
I mean wingspan, femurs and tibias

Quote from: DoctorStrange on September 02, 2023, 08:53:47 PMGoitikas is good, but my top 3 would be:
1. Paley
2. Birkholtz
3. Rozbruch
With the Athens package, you have to get your own hotel, and you go downstairs to a taxi to the physio and taxi back, and you have to sort your own meals.
With Dr Birkholtz, he in my view, is a top 3 surgeon and better than anyone in Europe.
The physio comes to your room - no risking the nail/time consuming going to physio via taxi or shuttle bus 2x a day for a month then 5x a week for two months. You get quality accomodation, meals brought to you, laundry done for you, x-rays done for you etc
If Dr. Birkholtz offered simultaneous quadrilateral lengthening, I'd probably go with him. I don't want to wait 6 months to do my tibias after my femurs when other Doctors will do it in ~3 weeks. I understand his stance of safety, which is one of the many reasons I like him, but I'm willing to accept the (low) risk and do it 3 weeks apart. I hope he changes his stance one day, but as for now, I won't be going with him.
Quote from: OzzTaller on September 03, 2023, 04:33:17 AMThank you for the informations. When it comes to favourite doctor, Paley is surely on the top of my list but my budget is nowhere near the cost of surgery at his clinic. Birkholtz and Giotikas are the doctors that fit my budget and expectation (especially about reputation and safety).
If money was not a factor, I think the majority of people would go to Paley. But to me, the cost isn't worth what you get. There are many other Doctors that are also very well experienced, safe, and can do the procedure without an issue. While I would never cheap out on my legs and go to a butcher, I also don't want to spend more money for no extra benefit. I agree with you, Birkholtz and Giotikas meet a high standard, both are very experienced, and both offer a great deal. You are in good hands with either, but I think Dr. Birkholtz offers a better *packaged* deal.
