Hello, I have had a bad right leg since I was a teenager but now it is time to deal with it.
How does lengthening and straightening a tibia affect your mobility long term? Are you able to run and exercise afterwards?
Also, is the ilizarov scientific centre a good place to get this fixed? How do people manage to stay there for 3 months?
BUMP
Also, what does it mean if there is a big gap running sideways across the tibia but x rays do not show a fracture??
You can get it fixed locally if it's not cosmetic.
Most orthopedic surgeons are against CLL, but not medical cases where correction or osteogenesis via some form of fixation (external or IM) is needed.
Hello, I am against doing it locally for personal reasons. I have been told that the clinic in Kurgan specialises in this and have a lot of experience, only problem is the 3 months. Because I have lived and done sports/gym with 1 bad leg I have ended up with a lot of injuries over time, labral tear on the OPPOSITE hip, neck, shoulder, arm, tmj all on the side of the bad leg too. I only wish someone had told me about this before because now I will need more than 1 surgery to sort things out
Here's the thread for the Ilizarov Center (Kurgan):

Some members got their surgeries there.
You have much better chances than anyone who wants to do cosmetic there. Start e-mailing them as soon as you can, and get the process figured out. It seems to take a lot of time.
We have this diary of someone who did a genu varum correction in Kurgan, so you can know what to expect:

Another diary from there is this one:

Thanks for those!
Just a quick question, has anyone torn a labrum before from living with 2 completely different legs for a long time? One good leg, the other painful and slightly shorter
If you have a leg length discrepancy, US insurance will cover it.
Hello,
I do not live in the US or have any insurance, I have to just go out and deal with this myself
I have been told that the ilizarov centre in Kurgan is good but has anyone here been there with good long term outcomes from this website? I dont need much lengthening so there shouldnt be much problem for me or is that not how it works?? Does having a leg in bad condition before this surgery give you a worse chance of success and recovery?
Thank you

You really need to consult an orthopedic surgeon in your country.
One with experience in limb reconstruction and deformity correction through the usage of fixation devices, of course.
If that's not possible for you in your country, let us know.
