Were you only given aspirin Erkan as the "blood thinner" before Mr. Erkan? So sorry you went through that but glad you caught it in time.

Quote from: Erkan on April 02, 2021, 07:35:10 PMI have something important to tell you. About 2 weeks ago I felt a strong pain in my right leg while stretching. Probably a muscle strain. since then my right leg was a bit swollen and hurt more than my left. but nothing bad. My mother, (she is nurse), recently saw the slightly swollen leg and has asked me every day since, that I should clarify whether it is not a thrombosis. Since I take prophilaxic thrombosis injections every day and I also exercise regularly, I ignored it but made an examination today to calm her down. and the result was unfortunately really thrombosis. I was shocked. They immediately called the ambulance. It was a scary feeling. They have now switched to xarelto as bloodthinner. of course i'm a little concerned now. I hope I can still finish distraction as planned. what I mean by that: if you are unsure, it is better to get checked. I would have never thought that its thrombosis in my case since the only indication was light swelling which I was blaming on the muscle strain. As you know this could have a deadly ending. maybe my mother saved my life by doing this!

Sorry to hear that mate but lucky it was identified in time. Is there a reason Dr Koehne didn't have you on xarelto from the beginning? I am currently taking xarelto at 3 and a half weeks post op and have been on it since the time of the surgery.

God bless to your mother for saving your life. oh dear God this is a scary operation. It is surprising to me that you get this complication after almost 2 months after the operation. My doctor in spain told me it usually happens in the first month. and you are doing the stryde nail and walking everyday. This is a complete surprise to me.

the treatment for this complication is the blood thinners so you should be ok with going forward. Best of luck to you Erkan!

Did you find out which leg the complication came in? Is the injections you were taking more powerful than xarelto?

regards,
sergio

Yes its very suprising! I dont know how long i do have the deep vein thrombosis. I could have it longer without any signs? I dont know. But for about 2 weeks something was different. I was blaming it on the muscle strain. During the lengthening phase you go through all kind of feelings and pain so this wasnt anything I was thinking about.
I asked the doctor here at my hometown how this is possible since I get injection since day 1 which should prevent thrombosis. His answer was that its only 80-90%. As everything. Nothing is 100% safe. The injection were less powerful but regular therapy for preventing thrombosis. The Xarelto I was given now is much stronger and is for the case if you already have thrombosis. Xarelto is normally overkill for preventing thrombosis and can have other dangerous side effects.

No I was given the regular injection since day one. They are called Mono embolex 3000 in germany and are standard after operation. Cant blame the Dr. Its really bad luck

Where was your surgery? Here they usually use the injection as prevention which should normally be enough and xarelto can have other rare dangerous side effect. I think this is the reason. But maybe this will change in the future?

dear Erkan,

did you perform the repeat test to check if your blood clots has improved? and can you tell me the name of the injection you were given including the company name? I want to do some research on this topic.

unfortunately I have to stop the distraction :// Dr Koehne adviced to stop and that only after the vein opens further distraction is allowed. I wrote in the beginning that my goal is 4,5-6,00 cm. Im at 4,7cm right now. I would love to make the 6cm but safety first! There is still a chance that the vein opens before the bone consolidates but that has to be carefully monitored.

dear Erkan,

I am feeling sad to hear this but health always comes first. I didn't know that the lengthening causes the blood clots. I had thought that it's the first operation which causes it (like any fracture operation). I don't understand the concepts here. Why should the lengthening cause the clots or worse them? Lengthening will creates the new blood vessel tissues and not make the existing blood vessels smaller.

Erkan, it would also help me to see the photo of your leg with the dvt.

cheers,
sergio

We really dont know the real cause of this since its very unusual at this stage and under this circumstances ( stryde, full mobility and injection). I have made a picture of both legs but even I dont see a real difference. The swelling is minimal. But my right leg feels heavier. I just blamed it on the distraction an muscle strain. Maybe the muscle strain two weeks ago caused the thrombosis? Just a theory. My Dr recommended to check if I maybe had covid. This could also be a potential risk for thrombosis.

I had my surgery in Germany with Dr. Betz. I had the injections in the hospital but then switched to xarelto after discharge.

What dosage? I do get now 15 mg twice a day. You got probably less since it should only prevent it.
