I am Italian and I would like to undergo femoral lengthening (+8 cm). I am 174 cm tall. My priorities are safety and being able to walk as after surgery. From various research, I understand that the best methods for me are BetzBone at the Betz-Becker Center in Germany and the G-Nail by Giotikas in Greece (Precice does not allow immediate full weight-bearing on the lower limbs, offers less autonomy, involves more time in a wheelchair, and is also more expensive).

In your opinion, which is better for my case: BetzBone or G-Nail?

I would like to spend a maximum of €50–60k for the surgery, not more, including the costs of staying in the country.

I would also like to be closely followed from a physiotherapy perspective during the lengthening phase (or at least in the initial phase), as I do not like the idea of having to find a private physiotherapist on my own who specializes in limb lengthening, especially to prevent complications.

I know that Becker will soon open a center where patients can stay for three weeks, but after that wouldn’t I still need to continue physiotherapy?

I would also like to ask whether, in your opinion, it would be possible and safe with these techniques to return to the gym after 1–2 months, at least to train arms, chest, and back, excluding the legs, after a sufficiently safe recovery period.

Thank you for your advice!

It would probably be best to wait until Precice Max becomes widespread enough. Giotikas will offer Precise Max as an option before the end of this year probably.

Hey my fellow European,

I'm going with Becker in March and try to answer some of your questions.
Femur with Becker is 57k but you have to pay 7.5k in around two years for the removal. And there are only 14 days included, but you can get a week more in Freiburg if you are open to sharing your story online as he told my during the consultation call.

After the first three weeks he told me the patients closely following the app instructions and are healthy/young/sober don't need physiotherapy since it's weightbearing + internal and you should walk at least 2000 steps a day.

I personally wouldn't wait for P-Max since they already had the Stryde, then recalled it and then potential patients thought for years P-Max is close to be released - only to be dissappointed.

Also he told me I can easily train upper body (no risky stuff though) after two or three weeks if I can take the bus to the gym. No driving until week 6 at least, then automatic only.

Best regards from Germany.

I think G-nail is better than betzbone and Giotikas has a more complete and more flexible rehab protocol. You can stay for as long as you want in London or Athens but they can also support form afar if you decide to leave early.
Also, G-nail is manufactured in Switzerland which is a European country, whereas Betzbone I think it is manufactured outside Europe. G-nail is commercially available to the markets in EU and UK and used for non-cosmetic medical problems in some hospitals in France and Italy, whereas Beetzbone is not sold to anyone and is only used for cosmetic cases.

As an Italian, I believe you should consider staying in Italy. In case of any problems, you'll have an Italian doctor who can help you and follow up with you! Don't make the mistake that many others have made in this forum. As for BetzBone or G-Nail? Neither! For a girl, the clicking system is very difficult, and there’s a risk of nonunion, as you can find in older forums. With a budget of €50-60k, you can have surgery with Dr Pili using the Precice method or wait for the Precice MAX at the end of the year. It would definitely be safer for you.

I really doubt that precise max will be available that fast outside Palay and furthermore it would cost less then 100 k. Precise is the safest for Sure but too much time without being autonomous on a whellchair compared to mechanic nails. My operation is supposed to be as early as 2029 so plenty of time to see what happens meanwhile but I have read Precise Max has been waited for many years and expections have always been deluded. The problem with Pili is rehabilitation too not giving you the chance to be follower by anyone oppositr to Giotikas

I was perfectly fine with physiotherapy, as Pili arranged for his professional physiotherapist to follow me and send him continuous updates. So, I did not see any problem as such. With Precice, I did not use a wheelchair but a walker for less than 3 months and crutches after. I only used the wheelchair when I was more comfortable moving around but did not really need it. I believe you might be right about Precice Max. It might take a long time, but usually, when it becomes available in the US, it soon becomes available in the EU.

After saying all this, make your choice based on what you think is best for you, and don’t wait indefinitely. This is something you need to do when you feel ready and when the time is right.

All the best for your journey! We all support you Ferry.
