Hello guys,

I am new in the forum and starting to be interested in LL techniques as I would like to grow a few cms (7-8) one day to combat my height disforia.

I know STRYDE nail has been recalled by nuvasive since Feb 2021 and I thought this was the most suitable option in the market due to its full weight bearing capacity and technology.

Do you know any other full weight bearing techniques used currently that allow you to stand up almost unaided sometimes during the lenghtning process? Let’s say since month 1-2 after surgery...

I have heard about PRECICE 2 or Fitbone but these aren’t full weight bearing... how about Guichet Nail?

Are there any other techniques that I should consider?

Many thanks! I hope to hear from you guys!

A.

G-nail is indeed full weight bearing (Dr Giotikas and Dr Guichet)

Classic or adapted Ilizarov is also, altough more advisable only in the consolidating phase (only crutches but not wheelchair before that). Nevertheless in this case you need to be a super hero to tolerate it the femurs (much easier in tibias).
In tibias Ilizarov remains the saffest and clinically best option for most experienced doctors (it can retract if the bone is not forming or consolidating sufficiently ( G-nail CANNOT) , it can correct possible  curvatures along the lenghtening, it has much less risk of thrombosis,  etc). You have to keep pins clean, it's not as practical and "elegant" as other methods and it's more difficult for example to find a sleeping position and to do more varied physiotherapy (but this matters less because you can do the essential exercise anyway: walk and bike).

There are more weight bearing but ONLY in the consolidating phase and with potential more risks specially if not done by a top doctor (not necessarily the most famous). These methods include for example LON (but in this case for example there is a huge loss of blood and may cause problems in the knees).

Hi, i really apprecistr your answer.

In my opinion internal rods seem to be less dangerous, so I think i am going to focus my research on that.

So nowadays, with the stryde recall, the only full weight bearing internal nail available is G-nail?

Thanks and regards

for full weight bearing i đid  LON and it was perfectly fine, no big issue at all. For tibias, LON is a good idea at least in my opinion. I gained 8cm

The Guichet nail is weight-bearing, as Dexter said; if you're interested in weight-bearing primarily, then I heavily recommend going with Dr. Guichet. He's arguably the second best leg lengthening doctor alive today.

Guichet has performed thousands of surgeries; it's not a surprise that, unfortunately, at least one patient would die. However, that patient also had other problems that contributed to his situation.
