Quote from: Jake20 on April 12, 2020, 09:20:38 PMAs far as I know betzbone is similar to stryde and can bear some weight,

They aren't similar. Stryde has a magnetic mechanism without any twisting movement of the callus. Also in case of nonunion it can move in the opposite direction. Further it is manufactured by a reputable US company and is FDA approved.
Betzbone is using the obsolete clicking technique which is prone to causing nonunion due to instability. It is manufactured by a limited company 100% owned by Dr. Betz and his wife. It is not FDA approved and got only the CE marking which has practically no meaning. Dr. Betz and his company have repeatedly failed to follow regulations with regard to the Betzbone and have a reputation to cover up any problems.
If you want safety stay away from this controversial Dr. and his "home-made" product.

Thanks mate I didn’t know about the risk of non union because of instability, though I had heard the clicking mechanism was a pain. Obviously a safe recovery is my number 1 priority and I will sacrifice 1cm extra for a better recovery, although some here have used betz successfully it may be best not to take the risk.

Quote from: llj on April 13, 2020, 08:08:22 AMI don't know much about precice and if I'd be wheelchair bound for any significant amount of time I wouldn't even consider it because that would lengthen the recovery time a lot (muscle atrophy etc).

I compared the nails available and I went with stryde mainly for the comfort it brings and of course also cause it's weight bearing. LL involves a lot of pain and discomfort, sleepless nights, long recovery times etc. So when I learned that stryde can lengthen with a simple push of a button on the stryde remote controller as opposed to twisting my broken swollen sore legs in weird angles that many patients say can take up to 30 min to complete a mere 1 mm, I became very interested on stryde. Then I had to ask and Dr Pili also said that currently stryde is the best nail on the market.

Regarding the 8cm stryde limit, it's there for a good reason. I watched a presentation on youtube given by Dr Paley where he explained the 8cm limit was intentionally added to stryde because complications increase exponentially if you go over that amount. So for my case I actually saw that limitation as a plus, a sign that the manufacturer of the nail was really concerned about the results I'd get from it.

Very useful thanks- I would ideally like to push to 9cm because of my situation to avoid having to do another surgery; that said I would obviously prefer a safe 8cm operation to one with complications. I will take into account the comfort, although stryde does seem to cost a bit more.
