I am saving up $20,000 to go to Russia and get it done in the winter of 2015.
Might even be a bit earlier depending on the money I save...

If anyone has information about price and recovery time please feel free to contribute I've made my mind to do LL next winter(Femur 5.5-7cm). Whose with me ?

Thanks in advance.

Wait you're planning to do external(guessing from your price range) femurs?

Don't do external femurs, you will have a hard time, and with illizavor frames there is a contracture rate of 30%.Do your tibias

monorail LON external femur, has a contraction rate of 5%.

30% is for cages and not LON.

I agree 30% contracture rate is too high. and not worth the risk.

are they doing a proximal cut? (inserted at the hip)?

I am looking to go to the Illizarov center in the winter of 2015.
I don't mind staying at either of the places.

Is monorail LON much more expensive than regular cage ?

no it is just a different type of external frame. with an internal nail. after you finish lengthening the monorail (external part) is taken off and the internal nail is left in for the consolidation phase.

disadvantages is that it is more fragile than cages and if you don't choose a good doctor with a strong frame it could bend.

suggestion is for the first 6 weeks of lengthening to limit weight bearing to absolute minimum.

You do realize that with any type of lengthening you get 100% contracture rate? You guys have no idea what you're talking about, you probably don't even know what a contracture is and how, why it occurs.
