Hello all,

I’m pretty new to this forum and have been looking around to learn all that I can for my LL next spring. I’m going with the Precice 2.2 and had concerns about wheelchair mobility. I’m 5’8 200lbs with a muscular build, and I don’t know if that’s ok to go in as? Should I be lighter? My rationale would be if I’m lighter I can put more weight on my legs as I transition from wheelchair to bed/toilet/car. If anyone has experience with this and has tips or tricks that would be immensely appreciated.

Also any and all other tips and tricks/devices I should buy beforehand, etc I would love to hear.
Thank you

Transferring from wheelchair to bed/toilet/car put almost all weight on your hands and arms.

I still think it's beneficial to have less weight on Precice 2.2 nails, because you'll have to use a walker occasionally beside the wheelchair.  The biggest Precice nails can only handle 75lbs each. However you can still stand up straight unassisted for a few seconds, but I wouldn't do it very often.

Most physical therapists encouraged patients to use the walker more to encourage more bone growth and to prevent muscle atrophy.  However I'd recommend that you stick to the wheelchair as much as possible.  I've seen a guy, with the same starting weight and height as yours, slightly bent of one his nail because he used the walker most of the time.  I rather have slower bone growth and muscle atrophy than to have a bent nail(s).

I put together a list of stuffs I bought during the lengthening process in my diary:

Thank you for sharing your list and story Zidank! I’m not gonna lie, now that I’m locked in for surgery I’m absolutely terrified.. I think my hospital with Dr. M only lets us stay 2 days so I’m fairly concerned that some complication will arise and I’ll end up biting the dust while I’m back at my hotel solo.

What are the three main stretches you do post op? Can you explain how they’re done so as to practice them prior to surgery?

What happens if you don't feel ready to go back home after 2 days? Do you just ask them to bill you for an extra 2 days? For example someone wrote that he was throwing up on the second day.

I hope you have a smooth experience but just good to be prepared for less comfortable situations :-)

If the surgeon is competent and has a good track record, he/she should be able to address most complications that may occur. I wasn't terrified about the surgery at all. It was either the surgery or keep living with heigh neurosis for the rest of my life.

I think 2 days hospital stay is quite short, at least for me.  I couldn't even stand up with a walker after day 2.  I think you'll have a difficult time staying at the hotel solo. I highly suggest that you hire a helper, at least for the 1st week.

Daily stretching for about 1 month before surgery is also recommended.

The three main self-stretches I performed everyday, beside the 1-hour daily stretching session with physical therapist.
