From what I've seen, russians naturally tend to have short arms. They're the only people that I have notice have shorter arms than average for the most part especially those from Dagestan.
Examples:
Artem Lobov Height: 5'9 Reach: 65 Inches Arm length: Unknown
Short torso,short arms.

Khabib Nurmagomedov Height: 5'10 Reach: 70 inches (note wide clavicles)

Artur Beterbiev Height: 6'0 Reach: 72.83 inches

Look up any dagestani Russian and,for the most part, you'll see odd proportions. I'd post more pics if it weren't a mission to post them.

Before anyone calls me an imbecile, keyword is for the most part. Obviously not all of them will be this way. It's just an observation and occurence I've found. I haven't found any other nationality/ethnicity/sub-specie to have odd proportions in terms of arm length to height ratio consistently with those that I have come across.

So why do you think this is so? If it is due to their ethnicity, are there other ethnic groups in the region who do not share those characteristics? Have you tried to find counter-examples?

Fighters aren't general populace, maybe their body type is a good fit for the sport. Michael Phelps doesn't possess the "ideal" proportions as well, but it's well-suited for swimming.

You could be onto something, but it's also likely that you saw a pattern in a very small sample size and now you've fallen prey to confirmation bias. I'm not as concerned about proportion as I am about overall height, so I'm fine either way.

Yes, but the first point is that Phelps is NO WAY 6-4
6-2 at best
so it's hard to take this seriously but I think it's right

That's fine if you think so, but don't get sidetracked; the point is about proportions. It's no coincidence that certain sports are populated by similar body types since that's what allows them to be special in their competitive field, and that's what OP may be noticing. If you looked into basketball players for instance, you'd think that a majority of Americans have above-average wingspans.

Now, I don't think that a short reach would be an advantage as a fighter. However it could very well be a coincidence due to the small sample size, which obviously doesn't represent the region's average.
